Foreman came around a little before my time watching boxing but from I what I gather he was seen as an absolute monster.
There were genuine fears for Ali's health in there. Understanding, as he'd destroyed Frazier and Norton.
There was definitely that feeling with Tyson, everything about him cried out.. Killer. Jump ahead to Tyson v Holyfield, once again fears for his health in there.
It's a close one, I'd say Tyson but only because I'm more aware of actually watching him come around.

Foreman, here's why, though Tyson was destructive and spectacular on his way to and after
he won the championship, but not one of those fighters were seen as anything special .
Foreman's destruction of ATG Frazier and the very good Norton is the stuff that
    makes legends.

Foreman was the completely fearless real deal. Utter destruction. Tyson not so much. Foreman prime had a killers heart/Tyson had yr average thugs gutless courage that evaporates with time.

I was born in '75, so can't really pretend I followed boxing during Foreman's prime. But Tyson-Bruno I was the first fight I watched live (on TV) and I remember to this day the aura around Tyson. It was just surreal. Nothing have come anywhere close since.

Tyson. I remember one magazine article explaining why his physical structure meant he could not be knocked out.

Jack, Joe, Sonny, George, they all impressed to the point of hysteria But their was a weird perfect storm that surrounded Tyson.

I always looked at this way: Picture both men in your mind at their primes. Envision them as they were and now place yourself inside the boxing ring with them. Who scares YOU? Who do you want to be across from you in that ring out of the two.

People talk about accomplishments, and ring styles, records but at the end of the day none of that matters. Foreman was a wrecking ball but Tyson was an animal, part of his allure was you never knew what would happen.

Tyson wasn’t just more dangerous, he was danger. A mind that could snap at any moment, take you to places you didn’t even know existed and drown you.

I guess Evander and Buster Douglas didn’t read that article lol.

    That’s complete bull hockey.

Here’s the deal: Unless you want to really narrowly identify Tyson’s prime, it has to include his less-than-fearsome fights with Bonecrusher and Tony Tucker. And we only decide that the Douglas fight is post-prime because we know the result — no one said at the time that Tyson was on the backslide. His four fights immediately before that lasted a total of 9 rounds (including first-round destructions of Spinks and Carl Williams).

Yet Buster showed no fear. He treated Tyson like an ordinary opponent.

Quick Tillis and Mitch Green were similar fights to Tucker and Bonecrusher for Tyson but were pre-prime.

Now go find me some prime Foreman results that resemble those. Down goes Frazier. Down goes Norton. Down goes King Roman. Peralta went the distance with pre-prime George but not the second time around. Chuvalo was the most durable guy of his era — maybe the most durable ever — and he got bulldozed. Boone Kirkman had one loss and got poleaxed in less than 4 minutes.

Foreman was more fearsome. He didn’t have those ‘let’s coast’ off nights that Tyson had. And he didn’t get completely exposed and taken apart by a sub-par fighter (Douglas) in his prime ... he banged on the greatest of all time until Ali’s mental superiority showed what he was The Greatest —- but he wasn’t losing every round like Tyson did to Douglas.

I think lot of sport fans( not special boxing fans) respect Tyson more than other greats.. Maybe the main
reason Tyson had lot of spectacular, brutal and significant ko wins (for example Holmes,Spinks,Thomas,Berbick,Tubbs,Bruno
and these were heavyweight world champions.. Of course Tyson had more notable ko wins like Marvis,Frazier,Biggs,
    Carl Williams,Tillman,Alex Stewart,Botha etc.
Considering these he looks/looked more dangerous fighter than others.

Without question,,,George Foreman. He slaughtered Joe Frazier and Ken Norton. Who did Tyson beat?

He didn’t look dangerous against Bonecrusher. (Prime.) Nor Tucker. (Prime.) Yes, he had power, but Buster and Evander laughed at his best shots. Douglas seemed more embarrassed that he got knocked down than hurt.

Tyson was not more fearsome than Foreman.

Tyson: Tries to break opponents’ arms, elbows to the face, bites Evander’s ear, head butts opponents.

Tyson apologists: “Evander is obligated to move his head out of the way when Tyson comes recklessly barreling in on a straight line without getting his head to one side. He got butted. Poooor Mike. He’s a victim.”
