Older fighters on technique?

    I don't think Canzoneri is the best example here as he was very unorthodox even by the standards of his era. See his rival Kid Chocolate though.

    It's true, people often end up pointing to deeply unorthoxed fighters as example of an era's technical shortcomings, Fitzsimmons, Wilde etc.
