From memory, I would have rated Maskaev's power at about 5 or 6 out of ten for a heavyweight contender. However, after watching his top 10 best "knockouts", I would probably lower him by a point. With the exception of the first Rahman fight, literally none of those stoppages are impressive. And, almost all of them came from a barrage of shots, not any great punch. He is certainly below average in power for fighters good enough to get a heavyweight title shot.
I don’t know how to rate his power but he could definitely crack. So let’s say if Lennox Lewis was a 9 out of 10 then could we put Maskaev at perhaps a 6 or 7 ?
Definitely could punch. However lost every fight by knockout. Once he got hurt it was over. I have to give him credit he didn't give up and managed to hold the WBC belt for a little while.
