Lol I agree . The regular belt is today for fighter that something like the nabf or usba was 20 years ago. Its not a major title.

I think this fights a joke too, but lets not pretend that Ortiz has done anything to deserve a paper title shot either.:-(

I get your frustration though.....this fake title is to create a mandatory for Wlad, and while a Potvetkin rematch pits Wlad against a very solid top 10 HW, it's been done and resulted in a 1 sided beating while it was actually being fought.....the majority of the fight resembled something of a high school prom, couples only last dance.atsch

 

As to the OP......IDK if Maskaev gets the fake shot.....so long as the WBA only give Potvetkin 1-2 max defenses of the fake title before being refed to Wlad or whoever the "SuperChamp" is by then.:think

Fact is, Wlad is 38 yo, will fight maybe 2 fights before his 39th Birthday, and maybe 4 before his 40th.
He aint fighting past 40.

That leaves 4 fights total, and this joke belt is one of em.....we'd all like to see a tough competitor come out of this "title" fight.:think

Still don't know how Rahman lost to him, twice. Clearly had to do with him not taking him seriously in either fight.

Crap matchup, Povetkin will brutalize Maskaev, still, if there is money in it, a fight is always better than no fight.

IMO, it would only be a good idea if they were to put Ortiz on the undercard, on a decent matchup, to help promote the following Povetkin vs Ortiz for the paper WBA belt.

Rahman would find a way to lose. He likes to beat Maskaev with ease and then lose near the end.

 

Ortiz manager says they want the fight, but haven't heard anything back from Povetkin and his management.

 

Neither of these two fighters deserve a crack at the title right now. Povetkin looked dreadful against Wlad, and Maskaev is even worse. Until/Unless Maskaev can fight Oliver McCall and not get KTFO in one round like he did the last time they fought, it should be against the law for him to even mention a title fight. The sanctioning bodies are becoming more laughable by the day.
