Just read on russian news that on Dec. 8th Oleg Platov will fight Danny Williams on Abraham's card in Germany. Not a bad step up for Platov.
He is a 24 y.o Ukrainian prospect fighting out of Belgium. The most notable win on his resume is a SD over Henry Akinwande.
He is a good boxer and fun to watch. Rated # 13 on WBC, and # 15 on IBF. But he is definitely better than that and this should be a good win for him. He won 26 times with 22 KO, lost only ones by Points in the 6th round very early in his career. Platov KO round 10
I am not really sure whether the present Danny Williams is really step up for Platov! I am totally confident that the Belgian based Ukranian will win that fight, but I somehow doubt that Platov will pose a threat to any top 15 heavy weight fighter.
Well aside of Akinwande, he really didn't fight anybody of note, so I would call it a step up for him. He may not be a threat to Top 15 at this point and he is only 24 y.o. I also do not see how he is worse than lets say Arreola who is hyped up like there is nothing tomorrow and was even ranked by the Ring in the Top 10(absolutely proposterous).
I don't know about Platov, I watched him fight Akinwande and it was a pretty dreadful effort from both guys. Platov looked like he deserved the nod because he was the only guy throwing in flurries, but that was despite the fact not a lot of them were landing. I think this'll be down to which version of Danny turns up again.
Danny Williams at age 34, with all his experience against people like Vitali, seems to be the perfect gatekeeper. He's not a top contender, but he's a tough cookie and a big step up for young Oleg. I haven't made up my mind about Platov: is he a real contender, does he have the potential to win a title, or will he lose once he fights better opposition? This fight may help to answer those questions.
Exactly. I'm not sold on Platov either. People who think he's just gonna blow Danny out may be in for a bit of a surprise.:yep
