Bowe wins a majority decision by coming on strong late. The outcome was very much in doubt in the middle rounds, but Bowe's being a natural superheavyweight and great on the inside starts really making a difference. One judge scores the fight either a draw or 1 point Usyk, but its clear at the end of the 12th there's no way the Ukrainian could have held on much longer.
I never said I did, and you still haven't proven that the ams mean anything in pro discussions. What's next, sparring?
What came next, after WBSS, was one notable participant winning a title in their 3rd “pro” fight and another doing in in their 10th.
You're not supposed to be trying to win in sparring, but to learn and prepare. In this bout, both men were trying to win. It means less than a 12 round championship fight, sure. But how well they do in 5 rounds under pro rules is surely somewhat relevant to how well they'd do in 12 rounds over pro rules. They are the same people. (As an aside -- and this isn't directed at you, but is a general observation -- it's interesting how people will swear up and down that pro vs amateur rules is a huge gulf, but who insist that Jim Jeffries wouldn't get much of an edge fighting under turn of the century rules against a modern fighter.)
Thank you. The narrative has become that Bowe squeaked by Tubbs, but at the time, many thought it was a screw job. Also, Hide, also essentially cruiser, gave Bowe a tough couple of rounds and the fight was only turned by what was possibly an illegal punch. Holy put him down even when in decline. Let's not forget the Golota fiascos. Finally, Bowe should have two disqualification against Tillery and I think it was Mathis Jr he hit on the canvas. Guy was very hot and cold, mostly cold.
WBSS goes 12 rounds. I quoted you on WSB. Yes, youre right, sparring is about learning which is why I take umbrage with people using it as evidence, as some fans often do. (though to be fair noneck didn't in this instance) The championship distance is very decisive as it involves different physical requirments, strategy, tactics, pacing, and decision making than 4/5 rounds. Just one example: if the more slow paced, harder hitting tactical fighter is up against a lighter hitting in and out fighter a 5 round bout gives him a lot less time to work the body and slow him down, and could lose the fight as a result. Whereas if the fight was 12 rounds he may have given up 4 close rounds but wore him down, timed him, and get the ko. Limon vs Naverette is a good example of this.
Joyce is way slower than Bowe. Not to say Bowe definitely beats Usyk or anything but this isn't the right example to use. I mean cmon, did you see how trash Joyce looked again an old Christian Hammer and a lethargic Takam ? Bowe has a more powerful jab and better on the inside than Joshua and Joyce combined. Usyk may well win but it's a tough fight
Close one but I think Usyk. I’m not sold on Bowe beating someone with the skill set Usyk has as it wasn’t ever shown, it’s just a guess but we’d have to see this one for real to know Futch is a big factor.
It's a Bowe decision for me at this point. Bowe has things going for him that Joshua simply hasn't and these things make him a tougher proposition.
Watch the video. He was faster back then. I don't believe that the fight would be fought on the inside.
