Awesome fight, Gvozdyk should stop him late just to make a statement.

Gvozdyk is now the only man to stop Isaac Chilemba, something even Kovalev couldn't do, he made the man quit on his stool.:deal:

If the injury is not legitimate which I do not think it is that will be a hard loss to come back from.

I felt the loss was going to come when I heard he trained with Roy. If you are going to change your trainer at least pick a good one.

Apparently WBC have said that Gvozdyk will be mandatory for the WBC title after Bute or Alvarez get their shots. Finally Stevenson meets the end of his reign when this happens, I think.

However, I'm not too confident for Gvozdyk if he fights Beterbiev, I heard that apparently Beterbiev was 3-0 (1 KO) against Oleksandr in the amateurs. I wonder if someone more knowledgeable could comment on this, e.g. @CST80 @houmzz @Serge etc.?

AFAIA they only fought each other once. They may have fought each other more than that but I've only ever seen record of them fighting once and Gvozdyk only mentioned one fight when he was asked if he fought Beterbiev in the amateurs.

Do a search on Google for this interview with Gvozdyk

'Video: Oleksandr Gvozdyk Talks Career, Beterbiev, More'

They fought in 2009 and Gvozdyk retired in his corner at the end of the second round because Beterbiev broke his nose.

Thanks. Unfortunately that interview seems to have disappeared, I did read about the broken nose. I wonder if he was taking a beating or was just unfortunate to be caught by a nose-breaking shot.

Would you give Gvozdyk more of a chance against Beterbiev now? He's improved as a pro, but on the other hand Beterbiev's power is more telling in the pro game.

I do not know anything about their encounters but I know Gvozdyk was knocked down by Chilemba that is not a good sign.Gvozdyk will always have problems with punchers like Beterbiev and so on.

Not by Chilemba, it was Karpency. Both Ward and Kovalev have been down, so surely one knockdown does not necessarily spell a weak chin. But did Gvozdyk had chin problems in the amateurs?
