I felt asleep and missed the fights last night ... when I woke up I thought Gvozdyk had lost from all the cackling going on here. And just because he decided to get some rounds in!

Not his best performance, but it was not nearly as bad as some are making out. I can't remember who here said he was "past prime" on the basis of last night's fight but that's nonsense.

Gvozdyk clearly was happy to get some rounds in, and perhaps he was also not that motivated by Baker as an opponent.

Baker had scored a couple of upset KO wins in his last few fights over an unbeaten prospect and a 12-1 one so Gvozdyk said he didn't want to make the same mistake those guys did and underestimate him. That's probably why he boxed more cautiously.

Baker is pretty tough Edwin Rodriguez cracked him with plenty of hard shots but he took them well.

Steve Lovett caught him with some big ones too. Lovett managed to drop him but it was with a peach of a left hook and Baker recovered very quickly from it

    I've time stamped it

That would be me. And I stand by it. The guy is 30 and fighters start declining between 30 and about 34. Fact of life.

Quite honestly, I've heard the "get rounds in" thing since I was a kid, and even then, I always wondered, "aint that what sparring is for?" Fighters don't get paid for overtime.

Well then, Ward & Kovalev must be way past prime ... and Golovkin too.

Well, at least you are consistent :)

I actually agree that those three are past prime but wouldn't want to say the same about Gvozdyk as 1) it is based on just one sub-par performance 2) he's a good few years younger.

Its all about the miles as well, Gvoz has suffered less wear and tear than those two. He hasnt been in too many wars, so his physical attributes are still top notch.

I think Gvozdyk needs to incorporate excessive holding into his game. Personally I'd like to see him to continue to box from the outside but instead of using his footwork, movement and boxing ability to evade getting hit, he should grab a hold of his opponent like a gay octopus and wait for the ref to call break and split them up so he can reset and get on his bike again. He really needs to stop all this foolishness of trying to get his opponent out of there when he gets them hurt too. What's that all about, eh?

This performance was a red flag. I like watching him box, but he's 29 years old and put on the kind of performance you give a 20 year old without amateur experience a pass on. Will continue to watch his fights. Won't be surprised if he's not the next big thing.

Brutally KO's Mohammedi, WOW holy ****, what a beast, he's the Next Big Thing!
Struggles against southpaw like most fighters, yet still batters and stops him, he sucks, he's not the next big thing.
Beats down and stops Chilemba, performing better than anyone has ever performed against him, meh he still sucks.
He brutalizes and stops Gonzalez in a savage star making performance, WOW holy ****, he's the next big thing!
Is uninspired by average opponent, uses match to get some rounds in, and stops him at will when he wanted to.
    Meh, he sucks again.

All the haters are either all fickle, have a really really short memory, really ****ing stupid or being intellectually dishonest for propagandistic reasons.

I was at the fights. After a bunch of really entertaining prelims it was disappointing to see Stevenson and Gvozdyk have such boring fights and have so much trouble against their journeyman opponents. Both fighters failed to make an impression on the crowd.
