Here's what I don't get about the "Gvodzyk needs a cheerleader more than he needs technical advice" defense of Atlas:

While he is famous or, you might even say, infamous for his cheerleading...Atlas isn't even the best in the biz at that motivational speaker type of corner work. Brother Nazim Richardson is a million times better at it ...and there's a whole spectrum of guys in between them (better than Atlas but not as good as Bro Naz). Buddy McGirt for instance. Atlas isn't an X's and O's coach (as he DKSAB), and he isn't even the creme de la creme of the "inspirational speech when you need it" coaches...so what's the rationale behind hiring Teddy? Just because he's a household name in our sport for briefly riding Cus D'Amato's coattails and then making FNF almost unwatchable except on mute for like 2 decades?

That would be like hiring Tim Allen to patch your roof because he achieved middling celebrity portraying a toolman in an insufferable yet popular sitcom (the Big Bang Theory of its day)

Interesting. I still think he comes through against Stevenson and gets that WBC strap.

Crazy...like hiring a guy who hasn't coached in years to lead an NFL team (Jon Gruden).

TBH I don't even think he's a good motivational speaker. IDK about his fighters but the rocky speeches would cringe me out more than anything.

Exactly. He is mediocre at everything he ever tries his grubby little ogre hands at.

Assistant to a legit ATG coach - mediocre, played second fiddle to Rooney and some other guys, leading to his butt-hurt vicarious irrational obsessive hatred of Tyson.
TV commentator - mediocre, he dragged someone that potentially could have been a decent play by play guy down with him for years and conned a large cross-section of the boxing public into thinking he knew his stuff when he was always wrong. Always.
Author - mediocre, his book was like the 18th most popular on boxing that year, and this is hardly a competitive market, who even buys or reads books anymore??
Coach - mediocre, all he did was ride Moorer's coattails to a championship and make Bradley and Povetkin vaguely uncomfortable with misguided attempts to play armchair therapist at unnecessary moments in fights they were doing fine in anyway.

I do remember those awkard silences from Povetkin with Atlas going nuts in the corner for no reason. Hilarious.

I have to say as well, obviously I can't speak for Gvozdyk, but the fighter-trainer culture is a bit different in America than Europe. The whole father-son type bond is not as prevalent, it's more professional style relationship that people tend to opt for over here. That's why you don't see guys like Kovalev or GGG being overly attached to their trainers like some other guys.

So I'm not sure how well he'll take some random guy going nuts and constantly yelling at him.

Adonis is in Ukraine now, and where is Gvozdyk, by the way...? He was expected to come as well but I'm not sure he did...

Steward was great too. He bitched Wlad out for holding back against Chambers. Wlad then went out in the 12th and KO'd him. With Steward in his corner does Wlad still lose to Fury and Joshua? I don't think so personally.
