Of ocurse i am. Stevenson nearly took him out in the early rounds and when Fonfara finally had him, he let it slip. It was Stevenson who finished the fight strong, despite gassing and being hurt badly.
And what does Cleverly´s face have to do with anything? He took over 400 punches and kept going.
Fonfara has no real power, his chin is average and so is his defence. Hell, for a top 10 guy he has probably one of the worst defences at 175 since Cloud.
But fortunently for him, he has determination.
Still doesn´t change the fact that he got lucky vs Glen Johnson. Ouboxed by Tommy freaking Karpency and Gabriel Campillo(no real shame in that, but still).

And Fonfara did not look all that good vs Doudou Ngumbu either. Right now, out of the top 10, Fonfara could maybe beat Braehmer or Chilemba.

  2. Don't hear anyone calling Fonfara a great technician. There are more ways to win in this sport than just being the better boxer as the Campillo and Karpency fights have proven. The one thing you failed to mention is the fact that knocked both around the ring and made one quit while he KO'd the other. Stamina grit toughness and high punch output can offset being less technically sound.

And the moment he steps in with someone like Gvozdyk, he will loose. Case in points - Stevenson. A better fighter would have stopped him.

Id say a lot of LHWs come in around 190.

If you're seeing guys who are around 5'7 putting on 15 lbs on the light divisions, you can imagine guys who are 6'2 or so can easily put on that weight over night

Not sure what Fonfara's fight night weights are but I'm sure I remember someone on here saying his walk around weight is high. He didn't have a problem getting down to the catchweight of 172 for the Chavez fight though (he was 171½ on the scales).

A journalist who was doing a feature on him said he looked taller in the flesh than his listed height as well

'Andrzej Fonfara entered the gym in the middle of my discussion with Bogdan. We were quickly introduced and I started interviewing Fonfara while he wrapped his own hands in preparation for the day’s workout. My initial perception of Fonfara was that he seemed much taller than his listed height of six feet, two inches. I’m about six feet tall myself, but he towered over me. He also looked chiseled. He must be no more than six percent body fat.'

I should imagine he's coming coming in or around 188-190 sort of range. Cleverly said he's usually about 182 on the night when fighting at 175

The highest fight night weight for a LHW that I'm aware of is the 191 Chad Dawson weighed for the Glen Johnson rematch. Marcus Browne equaled that last week against Hot Rod. Stevenson and Bellew were both 189 and 190 respectively for their fight too.

I've heard a few people say they think Gvozdyk is massive for the weight and that he must rehydrating a huge amount after weighing in but I'm not so sure about that. He said he makes the weight easy and he doesn't look drained at weigh ins. In fact he looks pretty healthy during them.

People were saying the same about Vasily Lepikhin, that he must've been coming in at 190 or more but he only weighed 182 against Chilemba.

Some of Kovalev's fight night weights

    Kovalev 189 - Pascal 185
    Kovalev 183.5 - Mohammedi 180.5

Here's a list of some other LHW fight night weights. Some of them are catchweights and some are are not natural LHWs who are just fighting outside of their weight class.

I think Gvozdyk would beat him, quite possibly stop him, but it wouldn't be an easy fight.
