How long have you been following boxing? Likely not as long as I have.
Many fighters, including great ones, not only looked at refs to influence them, but tried to tell the ref what to do in key moments during fights.
Exhibit 1, "the Greatest" more so the 2nd half of his career. Appears it happened less in 1900s-60s than it has from 1970s to date.

Usyk does not have a history of excessively behaving in this manner.

 

Unless Max lands a low blow I can’t see him beating Usyk

 

WSB version of Usyk was a beast. Obviously he declined since those days due to age and wear and tear but I think the comparison is still an unfair one as WSB bouts were scheduled for 5 rounds instead of 12. Fighters would obviously be much more active, agile and explosive for a 5 round bout than for a 12 round one.

Clearly yes, how are people questioning whether that was low?

Part of Dubois' glove landed on the beltline, which is legal, but a good chunk of it landed south of the border.

 

Not one part of Dubois glove touched flesh and Usyk’s trunks were not High. Ref rules it low end of story.

 

It helps if you don't close your eyes while looking at those pictures.

 

Like I told Kirk if you have to go frame by frame to demonstrate it was “low”, it wasn’t low…borderline sure, but this punch is allowed 8 out 10 times in fights all over the world. Usyk earned the benefit of the doubt by being a great champ and whatever, plus Dubious is awful, but not sure why acknowledging dude got a break is such a big deal. He kicked dudes ass, did fine, but clearly he was fortunate in this case. I’m not posting the videos and insulting your intelligence but obviously there are other angles that tell a different story.

 

Usyk was crippled and had no use of his legs, he was trying to drag himself and it wasn't working. Review the placement of the punch as it looked like it was right on the belt line. Usyk reacted like his balls were demolished. This wasn't a blatant and clear Golota combo to the balls, he was hit on the belt line.

 

Borderline calls mean ref's discretion, meaning not end of the world if ruled low nor end of the world if not.

 

Agreed 100%, he got the benefit of the doubt, and I’m cool with that. But let’s not act like he didn’t get fortunate, that’s all I’m saying.

 

It’s not a low blow for me it definitely doesn’t hit him in the bollocks like he made out so even if you think it’s low you still have to admit that he conned the referee and the fans and bought himself time, it’s definitely a tainted win as there is no one who can say that he was tagged on the nuts, that just didn’t happen so then is it even relevant if it’s low or not. It’s still cheating and it’s not how a champion should behave.

 

Brother, you ever been hit low in a boxing ring? There are more vulnerable areas than just the nutsack. Usyk had to pull up his shirt in disbelief on the post-fight conference, explaining to the fans what a low blow is. During the Anderson-Rudenko fight the referee had to explicitly pointed out the beltline is considered low.

Not really, people are trying to claim Usyk wouldn't have beaten a 10 count because he took advantage of time allotted to him by the referree which is silly, Fighters will take advantage of extra time generally.

 

If he had to or lose by kayo than absolutely. The idea he was too hurt to get up is guesswork on your part.

He was given five minutes by the referee so him staying on the floor doesn't seem like a compelling argument.
