Returning on Saturday (2/11), opponent TBA. Eight rounds at light heavyweight.

If he looks and feels on-target his team's plan is to pursue a bout with Joe Smith Jr. sometime in 2023.

Gvozdyk hasn't competed officially since suffering his first professional defeat 3⅓ years ago at the hands of Artur Beterbiev by way of rather vicious TKO10. That doesn't mean he's out of ring shape altogether, however. He has been staying sharp by providing peers with sparring services, most recently helping Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramírez Sánchez prep for Dmitrii Bivol in November.

Gvozdyk vs. Smith Jr. - color me interested, if indeed he can get anywhere near his form before getting Beasted.

The 3.5 years off could have given him the time to heal and rejuvenate his body. Major problem is he's now on the wrong side of 35.

Yep but if he can get back to his best, I reckon Artur is the only one he can't beat. As you say though, time is against him.

    You'd take Gvozydk over Bivol?

Why would one take 3.5 year inactive guy over a Undefeated bivol.

That was implicitly "at their best", as that's how @Dangerwood84 qualified things in his post. So, that is pre-2019 form in Gvozdyk's case.

I guess, I'm happy to see a talented boxer return, as in the case of Gvozdyk but obviously it's probably too little too late for him.

IDK, Bivol hasn't done enough to justify being a heavy favorite against a top form Gvozdyk. I hope that doesn't sound like hating on Bivol, but I'm not sure beating Canelo, Smith Jr. and Ramirez is enough to make him a heavy favorite against a 6'3" LHW with skill and decent pop. I could say the same thing about Gvozdyk. Nothing in his resume justifies making Gvozdyk a heavy favorite against Bivol. We just don't know. Both would be the toughest assignment of each other's respective careers and are natural top LHWs.

Edit, I should say that Beterbiev is/was a pretty tough assignment and Gvozdyk did come up short. But Beterbiev broke him down with physicality. Bivol doesn't have that in the toolbox.

If he can, he would be clear favorite against Joe Smith Jr.

Beterbiev gave him a concussion, which is not that uncommon. Looking at the fight, one is not surprised - it was a brutal fight. He hit Beterbiev with some big stuff too but couldn't keep him off.
