Just watched the Usyk / Huck fight.

First off, Huck isn't what he used to be. I think he's at the tail end of his career. He is still a top 10 cruiser though.

With that out of the way: WOW!

Usyk really, really impressed me in that fight.

The dude is like quicksilver, a flame in the wind. Huck struggled to land anything on him while Usyk's wild-looking loopy punches were on point time after time. How do you miss a guy as big as Usyk? Yet Huck was wafting air or bouncing off the gloves all night. I haven't enjoyed watching a boxer in action as much as I enjoyed watching Usyk in this one, for years. It's clear that he was enjoying himself too, judging by the grin that was plastered on his face most of the fight. His footwork is spectacular, his body movement is like a mongoose. His punches marked up Huck's face and his stamina is like a train. So looking forward to see him in action again.

Greenhornet said he was the greatest ever cruiser.

Usyk can't be the greatest ever cruiser because his resume doesn't reflect it yet. Marciano, Dempsey, Holyfield, Louis all fought at cruiser. Their resumes are streets ahead. But after this fight I will say one thing.

Usyk has the POTENTIAL to be the greatest ever cruiser.

    :D:applaudit:

Yeah, far too much competition for him to be anointed king of the cruisers just yet. He's already thirty, so the window of opportunity is quite tight for him to achieve the sort of resume that might be considered in the same light as any of those other fighters, but potentially if he beats Lebedev, Briedis, Dorticos/Kudryashov, Gassiev, Vlasov and any other beasts that might pop up in the interim, then moves up to heavy and beats a couple of top tenners, there's very little anyone can reasonably say to the contrary.

Topping Evander will be a real hard task though. Usyk will have to beat or be ultra competitive with Joshua for that comparison to become feasible.

I view him as a pound for pound talent.

What was his fight night weight?

If he wins the tournament I think he can move up to heavyweight and win a belt. I'd pick him over Wilder right now and Fury too.

Usyk should have just chosen Bredis from the start instead of Huck. That would would have been hilarious. Today we would all be talking about how he dominated Bredis.

Then again the tourny rules probably prohibited this.

Usyk could choose between Huck, Kudryashov or Perez. Gassiev, Briedis and Dorticos were the other top seeds. Wlodarcyk was the mandatory for Gassiev. Hopefully we will get Usyk-Briedis on January/February and that wont be an easy fight for Usyk. I'm looking foward for this one, IMO Usyk-Briedis is the best fighting the best as Kovalev-Ward, Brook-Spence, GGG-Canelo or Rigo-Loma

Thanks for clarification! I figured the other top seeds were not options for him along with Wlod. Still would have been great if Usyk dug his heels in and demanded Breidis for his first fight. LOL

Marciano, Louis, Dempsey don't count as CW's when you're talking about divisional ratings, they were HW's and most HW's were the same size. Holyfield is top dog at CW and if Usyk were to win the tourney i would place him as the Division's all time #1.

Holyfield - Qawi, De Leon, Ocasio, Mutti, Booze, Parkey, Tillman

Usyk - Gassiev, Briedis, Glowacki, Huck, Mchunu, Hunter

You disagree? You could say Qawi is still the best win but after that you going to argue that Deleon, Ocasio, Mutti, Booze are better than the likes of Briedis, Glowacki, Huck, Mchunu?

Holyfield gets overrated because of his passport, and nothing more.

Good James Ali Bashir interview from tonight. I got Bayloric to ask him some questions

I asked him to rate Usyk's power @ about the 7:00 minute mark

''Usyk is a very hard puncher when he wants to settle down and punch.''

He said that psychologically and physically Usyk can handle everything the CW tourney can throw at him.

How Usyk did in sparring against Wlad. He said they didn't spar but if they did it must've been when he wasn't there @16:54

But Johnny Nelson and Adam Smith both said they witnessed it. They mention it during the commentary for Usyk vs Glowacki

He also said Usyk knocks Ward out, that he can box just as good as him, is just as quick as him, and that he's tall, strong, and always in shape.

''Usyk would break him down and stop him. I know Usyk, I know him up close and personal. I don't see Ward doing anything better than Usyk. Punching better, boxing better, speed, any department Usyk can match him''

He also touches briefly on Ward vs AJ, Ward vs Bellew, and Ward vs Adonis @ 52:55.

I also got him to ask Bashir what his thoughts are on Briedis (Mairis has spent time in Wlad's camp and sparred him). He said Briedis is good boxer and very composed and that he was never hurt during any of his spars with Wlad which is a rarity for any fighter who has sparred 30 or more rounds against him @12:15

Apparently Wlad Sirenko has been sparring Joe Joyce recently and he said that Joyce has also been sparring Stiverne too. Can't remember if he said Stiverne sparred Sirenko as well. He reckons Stiverne caught Joyce with a big body shot which he feels hurt him.
