There's some truth to your comments. Usyk DIDN'T get beat down by the bigger men in his toughest tests (or any test before that as well), and i include Holyfield in that losing group too, as he lost to the bigger Lewis in '99. And unlike the others, Usyk was fighting against not only his opponents, but against the boxing system itself. To top it off, Usyk fights and wins CLEANLY, with no dirty cheap shots or fouls. I need time to reflect on this, but I know we are witnessing all-time greatness in Usyk. GOAT? It's worth discussing.
Not just that. No one come close Winning European, World, Olympic amateur title. He won it all 335-115 record. Then he won WSB. Then he cleaned the best CW division in the history beating every single top fighter in their own backyard. He comes to the HW already out of his prime. Beating AJ at the age of 34, than at the age 35, when his country is at war. Then beating Fury at the age of 37.5 years old. He also beat them in their own country and with everything stacked against him. Fury landed plenty of lowblows, not a single warning. Oh or maybe there was 1. Plenty of rabbit punches as well. Cut Usyk with a headbutt, and the pathetic garbage referee rule it as caused by a punch 2 rounds after, can you imagine ? Then the same referee f**** steal Usyk KO win. Usyk not just beat this mf***** giving huge advantages away, he beat them in their backyard with everything stacking against him + being out of his prime by a good margin. He is on the decline for quite some time now. I follow him from his very first day in the game, and knows how much faster he was with his footwork and hands. The guy was a menace. Also he was never drop or stop as a PRO.
Yeah, he's a modern day David versus MULTIPLE Goliaths. Impressive overall and we won't see this again any time soon. He gets less attention and meaningful discussion in general because he's not a loud mouth to bring attention to himself, deservedly so or not (like Ali, Holmes, Fury or many others), but to me, this is irrelevant. His body of work, along with his size and age disadvantages, is hard to ignore for GOAT.
Sugar Ray was GOAT level... for about 3-4 years. He's a little overrated in the historical sense, but that is just my unpopular opinion.
Didn't need them. He accomplished everything there is to do in 23 fights. Sorry if he didn't squash enough journeyman for you, but who else is there to beat? He is the undefeated first four-belt cruiserweight champ and the first four-belt heavyweight champ, and he's never even been off his feet. He did it mostly by walking into other guy's back yards. He's a legend, period. Up there with Robinson, Armstrong, Greb, Langford, Louis, Ali, Leonard, Duran...
He is Fury fanboy, who was saying all week long how Fury will KO Usyk with ease. What happen that this would be Fury easiest fights?
People will dismiss him in favor of the division staples like Lewis, WK, Ali, Holmes, Holyfield Marciano etc.. because he doesn't have the list of defenses that they have.. yet you could argue what he did was more impressive in a way.. imagine condensing cleaning out a division in just a handful of fights at HW instead of padding it out with B level fighters for years like WK did.. surely what Usyk did is more unique & noteworthy .. Chisora, AJ twice, Dubois & then Fury... the fact is he's an undisputed heavyweight champion and they are rare.. that alone puts him alongside those men listed above.. for me personally he's The Greatest European fighter of the modern era.
You have to understand that this era is the worst when it comes to activity. Usyk makes up for that by making huge statements every time he steps into the ring. Doesn’t matter how many fights he’s had, he accomplished everything.
He's far more impressive than Holmes or Wlad. Holmes spent his entire reign NOT fighting the best and openly ducked Page and Thomas. Wlad never fought his brother, and can perhaps be forgiven for that, but it remains that he did not fight the best of his era. Also, Wlad, Holmes, and Lewis have the embarrassing losses. Usyk does not suffer because he didn't run up defenses against Scott Ledoux, Lorenzo Zanon, Ray Austin, etc.
Think of it this way All those top Cruisers he beat - they would have been skilled HWs in the old days He mowed through them all and then went after the best SHWs as well. Beat them all too (Apart from PARKER - which is a fight I want to see)
I'm sorry. I cannot put him up there with even little heayweights like Ezzard Charles and Archie Moore with just 20 fights. I just can't. Those guys were tested in ways that Usyk can only dream of. We just keep lowering the bar, though. 100 fights, to 50, to 30, and now 20? It's not enough of a sample size, IMO. But I don't think these guys really care about comparisons to fighters 75 years ago, anyway.
Lol um no, no and no. Usyk was cruiser weight champion. Nobody cares about the cruiser weight division. It is a joke division. Usyk is the best heavyweight of this generation? Usyk has had what? 5 heavyweight fights? Yeah in 5 heavyweight fights you can determine how great he is at heavyweight. But you will say but he beat Joshau twice. You mean the mentally damaged Joshua that Andy Ruiz knocked out first? So Andy Ruiz has to be a ATG as well then. You mean Joshua who himself is a hype job. This guy is what 34 now? And the best people he beat in his career was a 38 year old Alexander Povetkin and a 41 year old Wlad Klitschko? Then Usyk beat Fury. You mean the same Fury who almost lost to a MMA fighter who had zero pro bouts? You mean the Fury who best wins in his career came against a 40 year old Wlad and Deontay Wilder? It is official now . Usyk fanboys are more annoying than Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather, Tyson Fury and Rocky Marciano fanboys combined
Moderm Cruiserweights are similar size to 60s/70s heavyweights. That part of the rant doesn't make much sense
