Oleksandr Usyk is vacating his IBF title!

This really kills the hype for Joshua vs Dubois in a way.

Usyk vacating means that 1 of 2 guys he already beat will become the new IBF champion. So if Usyk beats Fury again, the unification will likely be a boring repeat of Usyk vs Joshua/Dubois.

However, if Fury wins, Usyk will probably want a rematch stalling the division even further. Fury won't be able to face the Joshua/Dubois winner (both of which are intriguing matchups). And there's no guarantee Fury manages to win 2/3 of a potential trilogy with Usyk at which point Fury may retire or fall off the deep end doing coke again.

And if both of them abruptly retire, we're back to square 1 not knowing whose the truly best HW in the world is and the lineage ends.

This is annoying as hell.

Well at least this puts an end to all that bull about the "real" AJ being able to beat Usyk.

 

That is indeed the silver lining.

 

AJ had a very soft run and was being hyped beyond belief. No version of AJ beats Usyk and current AJ is not an improvement on the version Usyk already beat.
