Buster was throwing big combinations and huge uppercuts from round 1. Usyk is great, and undoubtedly better than Douglas but this is a bad stylistic match up for him. Usyk rarely throws uppercuts in early rounds. In fact, he rarely uses uppercuts other than ocassionally sneaking them in. He is also slightly cautious in that he rarely throws more than 2-3 punch combinations early in the fight. Tyson is faster than Usyk. Significantly faster. How is Usyk going to keep a rampaging Tyson off? He isn't going to be throwing 5-6 punch combinations mixed in with big uppercuts. If he could do that, we would have seen that vs pressure fighters like Chisora and Bredis but we didn't. If Usyk can survive the first 7-8 rounds, he could win. But i think he would take too much damage early.
Both live dogs. Usyk is underrated as far as fighting up close goes, and he has damaging two-handed combinations. Some of his stylistic choices work well against Tyson (elite movement in particular), though I'm not sure if he has good enough of a clinch game to tie prime Tyson up consistently. Given Tyson's own lacking inside game, he might as well be, and if anything, Usyk displayed he can handle himself in grappling, even if its only not to get hugged down. Gun to my head, I'd pick Tyson. Relentless, vicious, elite combinations up and down; phenomenal counter-puncher and his force delivery is something entirely different from the rather stationary punchers like Dubois, Joshua, or Gassiev. He is very comfortable moving with his punches, leaping in, and switch-hitting mid-combination. Ring size would matter.
Both are much bigger and more durable than Mike Tyson, Usyk and Tyson are the exact same size, Usyk know how to use the rounds better, can adapt to different situations, would easily weather the early Tyson storm, then when Tyson wants a rest, Usyk wouldn’t be letting him, he’d force him to work by staying in his face, but not throwing so much to punch himself out, most fighters wouldn’t take advantage of that when Tyson takes a rest because they’re already tentative from from the early onslaught, but Usyk would indeed, then after a few rounds, Tyson would be done around the 9th after Usyk keeping the volume on Tyson when he’s gassed and he would probably get stopped.
Perhaps. But if Tyson never fought Spinks, one would think you are an idiot for picking Tyson to KO Spinks in the first round.
Tyson went 17 action packed rounds with dangerous Puncher Ruddock and did no need a rest..................Tyson pretty much white washed Smith/Tucker, two very big Heavyweights, over 24 rounds without needing a rest............Mike Tyson has never ever lost a fight while ahead in the first half of the fight........ Let me throw you a bone..................Prime Ali/Forerman/Holmes/Tyson etc etc are not losing to 38 year old fighters with a grand totat of 5 Heavyweight fights under their belt
Tyson to stop Usyk somewhere inside 7. Usyk isn't the sort (Bonecrusher etc) to try and cruise to a decision loss and not risk getting ko'd. He's going to keep chasing the win and that for me is why Tyson gets him.
Incorrect. Without a doubt some would have leaned to it. Spinks was solidly hurt by an aged Holmes. Tyson's early fury, handspeed and power would have seen some going that way.
Usyk has had success against a number of big hitters. Even if Tyson can catch him why should anyone be confident Tyson can stop him. Gassiev, Joshua, and Dubois are a formidable group of punchers
