This is a match up that would have been interesting. Before Usyk came to the scene Drozd was the man of Cruiserweight, but injuries held him back. Between these 2 skilled operators who do would you have favored? This content is protected This content is protected
Prime for prime this would have been extremely exciting to watch two very talented and high level boxers go at it. Usyk would obviously be the favorite and rightfully so: better resume, better wins and just better than Drozd skill wise. It's a shame how Drozd's career was cut short after sustaining a back injury, he was supposed to Makabu and that would have been a total barnburner. Also not to nitpick, Flo Raiden, but Drozd was never really ''the man'' at cruiserweight. When he beat Wlodarczyk for the title Huck and Hernandez were consensus wise the number one and two guys in the division. Only after Huck lost to Glowacki and Hernandez's retirement did Drozd ascend to the number one position. Also you misspelled Drozd. It's GRIGORY!
Uysk by stoppage. he got stopped by arslan. not a good look, with Uysks pressure and volume he stops Drozd late.
In Drozd's defense it was early in his career and Arslan is a straight up gangsta so there is no shame in losing to him.
Wow, that was the timeline? Its funny how your memory plays tricks on you. Glowacki coming on the scene seems like yesterday, and Drozd's belated retirement seems like a different life time ago, but they overlapped! The memory plays tricks on you. As for the substance of the question...just another titilist in Usyk's resume.
Would have been a good fight but one in which Usyk emerges victorious again. Drodz was a very underrated (or rather lesser talked about) CW champ who was quality. Him and Briedis would have been a more even and exciting fight IMO.
I'd forgotten what a fantastic talent Drozd was.. Quick, athletic, powerful , skilled.. impressive career and skill set considering he had almost no amateur experience.. he'd give Usyk a decent fight that's for sure.. The cruiserweight talent from Eastern Europe has been off the charts in recent years!
This may sound hard to believe now, but before he announced his retirement, I was actually backing Drozd to beat Briedis.
Yeah the last comment sums it up. I don't see anyone at CW ever beating Usyk. He is 34 past his prime and still schooled Joshua at HW. That's speak volume.
