Usyk unifying all 4 belts in the WBSS, beating all his tournament opponents in their own backyard... surely one of the most impressive feats in recent years. I think Usyk is an exceptional fighter, and will take him to outpoint Sharkey.
For sure. Jack Sharkey was down many times. I have not researched all fights, but I can report the below: Mahoney - Sharkey was floored five times in round 8 and once in the 9th. ( 6 times floored ) Rojas - Ko'd ( Floored 1x ) *** Actually Sharkey got up, then fell down again *** this could count as two. Dempsey - Kod 10 count ( 1 x floored ) Carnera = Ko'd ( One punch KO 1x floored ) Levinsky - Shareky down in round 1 ( 1 x floored ) Loughran - Sharkey down in the 10th ( 1x floored ) Brubaker - Sharkey down in round 1 ( 1x floored ) Louis - Sharkey down twice in the 2nd round, and twice in the 3rd round. KO ( Sharkey down 4 times ) Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Sharkey Comments: I count Sharkey down 16 times, and there very well could be more. Getting stopped by Louis in your last fight doesn't count that much however a 1 punch KO at the hands of Carnera, and being floored by light hitters in Levinsky and Loughran to me indicate a weak chin. Jack Sharkey lost 14 times, and drew 3 times. This is a high amount of losses for any heavyweight champion, off the top of my head only Walcott who had 70 fights lost more often. Jack Sharkey had 53 fights. I find Jack Sharkey's KO% to be very low at 24.53%. I do think Sharkey had good skills on offense, but he was a very inconstant fighter. No--I have nothing against Sharkey, and do think his fight with Dempsey should be s NC.
Uysk is the goods to me. One of the more impressive guys I have ever seen at Cruiserweight. Jury is still out on what he can do against these giant heavyweights of today.
Yes, I think his chin is suspect at heavyweight too. The interesting thing about Usyk is he has a battle tested chin vs heavyweights as an amateur.
