I've watched the replay a bunch of times now. The Hurricane was upset with the stoppage...furious, even.

I can sort of see where he's coming from. He rose from two very hard knockdowns and was still on his feet with his guard up with literally only a second or two left until the bell would've saved him.

But still...Johnny, sorry, your life got rescued there. If your corner somehow did send you out for a 4th you'd have gotten instant brain damage.

 

Huh. What an interesting guy.

 

Some of the subtle moves Usyk has in his game... :yikes

He'll throw a right hook over the opponent's left jab, a split-second after theirs is released, with the sole intent of guiding the jab down and safely wide of himself, and then he'll leave his glove on their left shoulder and use the momentum from their collision to push them into range before throwing a left while they're still reeling in their arm.

Like, crazy subtle...and executed like it was purely natural.

The way he set up that knockout, man...

Go watch the entire 3rd round over a few times. He was steadily mapping out Muller's reactions to him pressing in close, learning where to put his gloves and when to deflect and create openings to shimmy in, casing the joint like a cat burglar studying the pattern of motion-sensor laser beam security around some precious object..

I'm seriously in awe.

 

He unifies cruiser right now. I'd put money on it.

Some have called for a move up to heavyweight at some point, and that's where I get nervous. The quality is actually much lower @ HW than CW, but those are still bigger guys and he does have some habits (always has) that have so far not gotten him in trouble, even with super heavies in the amateurs, but...
