Similar physique to Rivas actually, no idea if he can fight though. Weird move from Takam moving to another promoter, apparently his demands for the fight changed. You only change your demands if you can still land the fight, where does Takam go now?
Takam is an idiot, going to be hard for him to get back in the mix by declining this offer. He will just have to go through three wins or something to get back in. Spong can definitely fight, no problem at all. Question is, at what level can he hang? Ytalo had much more experience than Spong, and Spong still beat him handidly, with a broken hand for 8+ rounds. It could be another Kovalev vs Yarde style fight, just with Spong getting outclassed, but carrying a lot of power going into the fight. Spong has never ever been average at anything, he is the guy that shows up like Boyka, a champion... so he will show up to win... and make for an exciting fight. He was a striking coach for one of the best teams in UFC for good reason.... he has KOd guys, really big talented guys, in kickboxing that don't usually get KOd by anyone. Let's hope this fight happens, I think he would have more chance against Usyk than against Yoka.
Agree about Takam, you need to be a proper draw to be pricing yourself out of big fights like that. I’m sure Hearn would still like to use him but his new promoter looks like he’ll be difficult to deal with. Fair play , you must follow the heavyweight division closely! Hoping to see Usyk get challenged a bit and take a punch off a heavyweight before he steps up.
It's hard for people to convert to rival gods, even when their god seems weak in comparison. All hail the almighty Usyk
Since the creation of the cruiserweight division, the vast majority of Olympic heavyweight (not super heavy, but heavyweight) medalists turn pro as heavyweights - Wilder, Mercer, Golota, Tate, Tua, Ibragimov, Krasniqi, Odlanier Solis, Izon, Defiagbon, Nate Jones, DeWitt, Koeber, Musone, Simeon, Clarence Hill and most recently Tischenko (who won the gold in 2016). Even Henry Tillman turned pro at heavyweight, got scared, and moved down. Usyk opted instead to join Rakhim Chakhiev at cruiser. Now Usyk's 32 (quickly approaching 33), and he still seems hesitant to fight bigger guys. And it's starting to raise some eyebrows, finally. He clearly prefers to be the bigger man in the ring and refuses to budge. The fans seem to have more faith in him than he has in himself.
Reading the first several responses here and, ehh... I like Takam and Fedosov, but Spong honestly isn't some huge step down from either. Granted all three are big steps down from Povetkin, but after the fight with Sasha fell through it has all more or less been lateral hops as opposed to some continuous descent.
