Olivares. His record in or near his prime is a little sketchier, but that's what happens when you face really good fighters. I think Gomez is underplayed here a bit, but the truth is he had an easier road than Ruben.

Olivares. He's my #1 BW. Gomez is my #1 SBW.

Although Jofre would probably beat both.

Olivares as the greater of the two though I think their bests, I think Gomez was probably better. Olivares did a lot of good stuff at featherweight whereas Gomez didn’t really do much above 122 outside of the LaPorte win.

Wilfredo Bazooka Gomez was a little more mobile, but had real good power as seen against Carlos Zarate in 1978. Ruben Olivares was a very deadly puncher as seen in his title winning victory against Lionel Rose on Aug 22 1969 in round 5, at the Inglewood Forum, he was not a mover like Bazooka was. Ruben was better.

Ruben was better and Greater in my opinion. Gomez beats him in footwork and defense, and power is 50/50, but Ruben was the more effective fighter and proved it against much better, ATG levels of opposition. It is my belief that 122lbs would have been a perfect division for Olivares, had it been around after his legendary Bantamweight exploits.

Olivares Chin will let him down. Gomez is the better fighter with a more defining moment.
    Olivares has the better resume.
Interesting that both does not have a significant win past 30/31 yrs old unlike Morales, Barrera, JMM, Nelson and Jofre,
