A question that I've always asked. Was Oliver McCall told to throw the rematch against Lewis? He clearly won the first 2 rounds and Lewis appeared to be very cautious to engage. 3rd onwards, we saw the bizarre behaviour from McCall. Did he fold mentally due to a breakdown? Or was his bizarre behaviour due to being told to throw the fight, ala the Billy Fox Jake La Motta fight? Thoughts please?
Billy Conn fought Jake LaMotta?? McCall didn't "clearly win the first two rounds" - that is ridiculous. You could make an argument for him winning the second though. Impossible to know what was going on in McCall's head, but it's probably just how it appeared - he had no business in the ring, and mentally broke down when things started to go against him. If I was going to set up a fixed fight, I don't think having the loser wander aimlessly around the ring without throwing a punch and cry between rounds is the way I'd do it.
Maybe not clearly..sorry am using memory. I thought the 1st was pretty even...McCall won the second in my eyes, will have to review the tape again...It just appeared a thrown fight by McCall's handler's....
