It wasn't the hardest task to outbox Mccall, but there's no one that is gonna bulldoze him.

Joshua wins a decision.

McCall was a journeyman/fringe contender with a decent punch. Like Lewis, AJ wins 8/10 times.

McCall was a fringe contender, he got beat by Norris, Tucker, Williamson, and Bruno. Joshua wins an easy decision.

Loses a decision, yeah about 80% of the time out boxed.
GOAT chin remains unruffled.

Beating ATGs Lennox lewis and Larry holmes back to back is better than anything the fragile bodybuilder has done

Lewis had a suspect chin (lightning stuck twice with fellow 25-1 underdog Rahman) and Holmes (who McCall barely edged) was 45.5 years old, having been chinned in 4 rounds by Tyson more than 7 years prior and not having a significant win in more than 3 years. I don't see why "back to back" is better than several years apart either: to me it's more impressive to get good wins at different stages of your career.

The only way an argument for McCall can be made is if you discount his 14 losses and additional gift decisions, sometimes against low-mid level journeymen (guys who any modern top 30 fighter would be crucified for losing to or struggling with). By this absurd standard, Darnell Boone is also an elite fighter rather than a mediocre journeyman.

McCall was a gatekeeper with a decent punch and chin made of absolute granite who on a good night could beat contenders (see his win over Lewis) but could be outboxed. I would pick Joshua 8 or 9 times out of 10 to pick up a UD points win with maybe a scary moment or two.

McCall wasn’t that good. He lost consistently to guys at Joshua’s level.

Pepsi Dioxide is right. McCall was 51-8 when he was 42 years old. After that he understandably lost at a higher rate (8-6) but still against competition that had a cumulatively excellent record. https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/451

Which decisions in favor of McCall do you consider gifts?
