True. But look at how much damage he took late in his career. He should have retired past Ruiz 3.

I've said this for years: There's nothing wrong with a senior circuit in boxing. Do a tournament with Tyson, McCall, Briggs, Tarver, Arslan, Rahman, Toney and a couple of randoms and I'll watch.

Roy Jones, Hokyfield, and Ruddock should sit it out though.

I will be surprised if the fight happens. His last comeback, McCall soaked a couple guys out of a bunch of money and fought one 6 round fight. During that time he was offered a fight with Holyfield for $500k and a fight with Briggs for a substantial amount. On both occasions he 'got off his meds' and didn't show up when and where he was supposed to. He also no showed and left a good amount of money on the table when he was supposed to be a sparring partner for a HW that was preparing for a rematch after losing his championship.

Looking into it this is less crazy than it sounds. Frazier is 5 years younger and hasn't won a fight in a decade and hasn't fought since 2017. Meanwhile McCall is on a 2 fight win streak with his last fight being in 2019. So McCall might win this.

Frazier could win off being 6 ft 5 and 5 years younger. At that age that could certainly be decisive but I see why this was sanctioned. Seems balanced.

So many people here nagging. It's their lives and their business and this over regulating that you guys are calling for is partially responsible for decimating the sport.

I don’t love the idea, but more power to them, at least they’re fighting each other and not some young prime juiced up guy…

Aging is tough, and I imagine moreso when you’ve lived life as an athlete… I bet this makes them feel alive like not much else can!

I understand that view, but I think there are a couple of problems with it.

First, we already limit how much harm fighters are allowed to inflict on each other through non-age-related rules. Most people want to watch a sporting contest, not a televised murder or permanent crippling for their entertainment. But when you stick old guys in there, the danger of getting just that ramps up exponentially.

Also, some fighters are so mental, or so desperate for money, that they don't care how much damage they do to themselves or others. Boxers are not necessarily the best people at long-term thinking or impulse control. And old fighters are worse still, they always think they're better than they are, that they still have it in them. Ageing is such a bitter pill for anyone, let alone a top athlete, that they just can't manage it.

I think it's so hard for successful boxers to quit. That buzz and attention has to be addictive, it must be really hard to let it go. In that way, trusting to boxers' personal responsibility is a bit like trusting that compulsive gamblers know when to stop.

I don't know, maybe you're right, but for me regulating is just the compassionate thing to do, like society is in their corner and throwing in a towel in on their behalf. Maybe if we care about these old guys and what they've achieved, we have to prevent them doing what they can't stop for themselves.

My friend trained him during that time and my business partner negotiated the arrangements.

I just looked at the McCall fight card on BoxRec, Jimmy Adams and Christy Martin are putting on the show. Adams was managing McCall when he beat Lewis. I talked to some people who went to Danville, Va. for an open spar recently. They said McCall was there and sparred with somebody. They didn't mention how he looked sparring.

Adams should know what to expect from McCall, he has known him for a long time.
