Always liked Oliver to no end. Probably my fascination with iron chinned fighters. Anyway... What are the hardest shots that McCall ever shrugged off? What were his best wins, sans the obvious Lennox one? Do you feel he had good power? What else did he possess? Whenever his name comes up I think of the fight with Akiwande, which I'm probably one of the few who's seen it. Was completely outboxed for 10 rounds... Then with something like a minute left he gets him against the ropes and knocks him out cold. Ahahhaa, also... In the second Lennox fight where Lennox ****ing WHACKS him. McCall just puts his hands down, flexes, psyches himself up and charges at the shocked Lennox catching another uppercut in the process. GOLD. :rofl
Bit of trivia: McCall dropped Tyson in sparring in Tyson's prep for Buster Douglas. Not sure about hardest shots. He takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Best wins (up for debate of course). Jesse Ferguson Lennox Lewis Larry Holmes Oleg Maskaev
Best wins Lewis Maskaev Awkinwande Holmes He has never been down in 22 years of pro fighting, facing Heavy hitters like Douglas, Maskaev, Lewis, and Seldon. He is a very weird guy who many believe has the one of the best chins of all time, he should at least be in anyones top 3 at Heavyweight all time list. Fun fact- If Mccall would of beat Douglas in 1989 he wouldve had the chance to fight his old sparring partner Tyson in 1990 in Tokyo, and might of won the title 4 years earlier by beating Tyson.
I wasn't quite right Page dropped Tyson, too. According to "The Last Great Fight", the new book about the Tyson-Douglas fight, McCall dropped Tyson with a body shot during his prep for the Spinks fight.
I think his wins over Akinwande, Damiani and Seldon were better than his wins over Ferguson and Maskaev. Oleg only had 6 pro fights when he fought McCall, and Ferguson was past his prime and not fighting very actively between 1988-1991.
I know, and then for whatever reason he took like 2 or 3 years off. God knows what he might have acheived had he followed up right after that victory with a streak of wins. Maskaev's resume is pretty impressive if looked at in the right context. He really doesn't have a lot of padding on that record.
Yeah, exactly. He was more or less fed to the sharks for years and he still has a very solid record, even more so considering he didn't start his career off being fed 20 tomato cans.
He certainly had good power ,but I think he had somewhat of a sparring partners mentality, what a chin though!
I definately remember it being Greg Page. The media made a big deal out of it to. I can't recall anything about McCall flooring Tyson, though it wouldn't surprise me given how far his head was up his ass in 1990.
