He was hopelessly mismatched with a kid half his age, but he's a professional round-goer and could've made it until the final bell easily.

 

Elon De Jesús vs. Dominique Griffin, 8 rounds @ featherweight

 

De Jesús the pretty clear A-side here... 8-1-2, seven kayos. His only blemishes are his split decision loss to amateur archrival Rajon Chance in their rematch, a majority decision draw in their first encounter, and another MD draw with Roberto Negrete.

Griffin also has a pair of draws - but that goes along with a 5-7 balance and only two kayos.

 

Commentators all gave Griffin the second round on hustle, and have it 19-19.

 

Crew calling the action all have Griffin up 29-28 now. They also are saying De Jesús needs a KO to win or a big 4th to salvage a draw ...did this get demoted to a 4-rounder?

BoxRec still lists 8, missed what the ring emcee said it was scheduled for.

 

Griffin boxes like a miniature third-rate Floyd Mayweather...which is apparently sufficient to disrupt crude pressure banger De Jesús.

 

Okay, still going, so it's at least a 6- if not an 8-rounder.

They have it tied at ringside, 38 apiece.

 

This feels pretty tedious when we have heavyweight freakshow nonsense to get to.

 

Some late drama, Griffin floored in the 7th by a right uppercut to finish a power sequence against the ropes.

De Jesús has a round and change to become the first to stop Griffin.

 

A dull round to close out a mostly dull contest.

Conway is always so polite, no matter how bad the action was he finds a way to compliment it.

"Well folks, that was an entertaining fight, to say the least! Put your hands together for both of these great warriors!"

Reminds me of when our gyms would have smokers, and you'd have two kids brawl messily in an utter crapfest and have lavish praise charitably heaped upon them by whatever coach was holding the mic.

 

As per Country Box tradition, a little girl in pigtails (presumably the daughter or granddaughter of somebody involved with the promotion... Christy Martin perhaps?) recites the Pledge of Allegiance before some local teen sings the national anthem.
