I'm guessing Conlan dominated in the 2nd, but outside of a 10-8 round, you can't reward Conlan for work he didn't do outside of the 2nd.

So Nikitin pressured and backed up Conlan in the first round, AND outlanded him? How exactly is that a Conlan round?

Can someone break down why Conlan deserves the first? All I'm hearing is conjecture.

Nikitin brought the pressure, back him off, and outlanded him. And if he managed to have more punches landed, it was obviously effective aggression. Why is the first such a clear Conlan round to you guys?

 

I swear this woman's boxing is so annoying.

 

nikitin vs conlan that was a close fight no blatant cheating. they both landed heavy shots , conlan may have been the tiniest bit more effective rolling nikitins eyes in the back of his head a few times. 50/50

 

Because Conlan was outpointing him with a quick, in-and-out approach, landing accurately, with Nikitin being too slow to the punch and following Conlan's lead. We all believe he was winning the round as a result. Unfortunately for Conlan, it wasn't rewarded so he had to change his plan.

Can you imagine someone like Guillermo Rigondeaux having to change his approach? He would get KTFO. Conlan's completeness earned him a victory.

 

According to the commentators on nbc, the fighters nor the audience are told of the result in between rounds, so Conlan nor Nikitin for that matter wouldn't of known the result after the 1st...

 

Of course they know, the scores are broadcast on live tv between the rounds. Conlan changed his approach entirely because the first round, where he simply outboxed Nikitin wasn't given to him. As for that first round, it can only be awarded to Nikitin if you are an enormous fan of clumsy come forward aggression and don't like boxers who can box.
