Bar the latter how would you explain to someone the difference between them all- Olympic lifting- Strongman- Power lifting- Bodybuilding- boxing/mma
Thought we could make a sticky as people are interested in the various training protocols. Each has a benefit. From what I understand- Power Lifting - Is 3 lifts - Bench press, deadlift, Squat Strongman - Farmers walk, stone lifting, car pulling etc Olympic Lifting - Clean and Snatch, Clean and Jerk Bodybuilding - Aesthetics, big muscles, low bodyfat. Of course no one could ever be incredible at all 4, and im sure people would say concentrate on one type of training BUT how would someone training methods look like if he/she were to incorporate all of the above. Mikhail Koklyaev seems to be the only one who is world class in olympic lifting, power lifting, and strongman.
There's no such event as a clean and snatch. How the hell would that even work? Prior to 1972 there used to be 3 events in Olympic weightlifting, namely: Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and Clean & Press. For more info, here's a link from wikipedia: The Tragic History of the Military Press in Olympic and World Championship Competition, 1928-1972
The Clean & Press is an amazing lift, and it's great because it incorporates everything. I can't think of a better lift. I'd like to get mine up to 100-140kg by December.
Thanks, apologies for getting it wrong just like a break down and ideas of what all the main strength sports are.
Be good to get Virus and few others onto this, love to hear smalls ideas but he dosent like me which is a shame. Smalls does strongman, and has thread on the lounge.
