Yeah, I believe it's individual in all competitions except for the Olympics. I know that both Selby and Yafai qualified at the Worlds last year, but Selby won the box offs.

Maybe Wikipedia knows more about why only Great Britain is represented at the Olympics...

Sam Maxwell won 20-10 but was dropped in the last round, least he is through. We have two quarter finalists in 60kgs, Maxwell will have the Turkish lad tomorrow and they seem to be winning every bout... coincidentally it is in Turkey...

The Turk is fighting right now so he needs to win now first, hopefully we will get biased judging in London!

EDIT: also yes you are right, get into the semi's in 60kg and you qualify.

How many points do you get for a knockdown in AM?

No points. On the other hand, if you get three knockdowns or standing eights in one round, or four in total - the fight is over.

The boxers need to reach the final, or be beat by the eventual winner in the semi to qualify I believe

Irish Boxers in action today in Quarter finals of olympic qualifier.

60kg: David Oliver Joyce (Ireland) v Evaldas Petrauskas(Lithuania) around 1.30pm

    69kg: Adam Nolan (Ireland) v Tamerlan Abdullayer(Azerbaijan) 2.15pm

49kg: Paddy Barnes (Ireland) v Stefan Caslarov (Romania) 5.15pm

91kg: Tommy McCarthy (Ireland) v Josepf Darmos (Hungary) 7pm

If Joyce and Barnes win their bouts they've qualified. Nolan needs to reach final in order to qualify and McCarthy needs to win the tournament.
