Is it me, or are all the referees in this Olympic tournament bloody awful? The amount of holding that takes place makes John Ruiz seem like Pernell Whitaker :deal There are no real warnings, no MEANINGFUL point deductions and a penchant for warning both fighters, even when totally unneccessary. In the am's, do referee's have to warn a fighter a number of times for the same offence before taking a point away, or can they use discretion - because I lost count of the amount of rabbit chops Saunders copped today! Also the running issue is embarrassing :deal Rant over.
I've just seen an Irish lad lose on countback because he had 2 points deducted for holding. I didn't see the incidents though, they jumped straight to the fight in the 2nd round and the holding happened in the 1st.
He was holding all the way through the fight, it was a disgrace :deal The other guy was trying to force the action and score clean shots - all the Irish kid did was hold, rabbit punch and run away like a little *****. On another point - I also don't think the scores should be publicised. It gives fighters an easy excuse to run away rather than compete - the whole essence of Olympic competition.
I thought you were after examples of where the ref and taken off points for holding? The kid held and it cost him the fight, you can't get much more "meaningful" than that....;O)
Amateur boxing referees seem to enjoy the spotlight and most adopt a 'look at me' approach to the job
Suppose so Gaz, if he had spent more time throwing punches than trying to kiss the fella he may have won, or got KTFO, suppose we will never no! God knows how many DQ's there would have been if Cortez had been reffing, the amount of late punches that are going in :rofl
