From the GB team Pat McCormack and Ben Whittaker are the two standout names. Also Caroline Dubois from the Women's Team.
I think it's great that they are letting young pros in (besides the professional amateurs from countries that have such things). I think the flexibility will be great for career development going forward.
I think GB has a pretty solid squad and can see a few winning medals. Pat McCormack is a very good shout for a gold and has the skills to become world champion I think Ben Whittaker - I think he can win a medal and he has the skills and charisma to become a star I think (as well as backing by AJ) Luke McCormack - Definitely has skills and will be interesting to see if he makes a better pro than his twin. Will be easy to market the twins I think Peter McGrail - I really think this guy is talented and will do well in the pros Lauren Price - Good shout for gold and could be competition for Claressa Shields in the future Caroline Dubois - still very young and very talented. Could win gold and obviously the Dubois family name will make marketing her very easy Andy Cruz Gomez - my favourite amateur at the moment. If he is able to turn pro, I think he could be a star Keyshawn Davis - has already turned over but the Olympics will give him a lot more exposure. Especially if he wins gold. Seems very driven and well spoken
Jalolov, Khyzhniak and another Uzbek in the lighter weights whose name escapes me are the only ones I'm reasonably confident will get the gold. I like the light heavy Kazakh too. And the super heavy Kazakh I think will be a decent pro, l like how he do but JB has his number in the am's at the moment. Whitaker, the kiwi Nyika and Marciel I will keep an eye on in the pros but might need a favourable draw to get a medal.
Agree with this McCormack is the standout in the UK. But also have a good chance with those you mentioned above. Heard some rumours that the McCormack brothers, Ben Whittaker through AJ's 258 management, Yafai, McGrail and Caroline Dubois will all sign with Matchroom after the Olympics. Will be interesting but I have heard that Eddie Hearn is putting a lot of effort into signing the olympians like he has done in the past. Keyshawn Davis looks very special and will likely sign with a major promoter afterwards. He has been on a couple of Matchroom show but Hearn has told him he wants some commitment from him to really try and push him promotionally.
I was really impressed with the Kazakh Light Heavy at the Asian & Oceania Olympic qualifying tournament (Bekzad Nurdauletov). He's only very young but has the goods. He & Jalolov @ Super Heavy to win golds are my picks. Hope to see the Kiwi David Nyika win a medal @ Heavyweight.
Oleksandr Khyhzniak (Ukraine) is the stand out talent. Unbeaten in about 70 of his last fights. Looks an unbeatable beast , and fights in a exciting pro style Pat Mccormack (GB) is an excellent all rounder who is peaking at the perfect time. I also really like Dzmitry Asenau (Belarus) a super skilled technician.Albert Batyrgaziev (Russia) Peter McGrail (GB), amd Jalolov (Uzbekistan) has to the the strong favourite at super heavyweight.
The lightweight division is the strongest. It is absolutely stacked with talent. Dzmitry Asenau (Belarus), Andy Cruz (Cuba,) Hovhannes Bachkov (Armenia), Luke Mccormack (GB), Sofiane Oumiha (France) , Keyshawn Davis (USA), Gabil Mamedov (Russia), Yaroslav Khartsyz (Ukraine)
Ah, yes! Khyhzniak! He's an absolute beast. I'm really hoping he signs with a promoter who manages him well
Draw is out lads, ready to roll. What does everything think? How will this affect your favourites medal chances?
I just checked the odds, it's interesting that noone is talking here about the biggest favorite in the tournament, oods for winning gold medal in their weights are: 24y.o. Gadzhimagomedov(heavyweight) from Russia with 1.40; 27y.o Jalolov(superheavy) 1.45; 25 y.o Khyzhniak from Ukraine with 1.60. Others are around 2.00 or more.
