    Hi All,

Was wondering when the weights are recorded for all the fighters as the competition last for couple of weeks. Is it done only at the beginning? or several times or just before every fight?

Also the new scoring system? ANy links plz, like how they score. Is it one point for every time the punch is land (irrespective of power punch or a jab)?

    Thanks all!!

my coach told me in competitions that last for a few days, fighters have to weigh in during the days which they are fighting in

about the scoring system, 5 judges are at the ringside counting the clean punches ( it has to be a power punch with force of the shoulder blah blah ).

they add up the scores of the 5 judges and take the average score if i'm not wrong.

But the fights that I saw so far in Olympics, the avg points are 15 are so. Dose that mean the fighter has only landed 15 punches in all the 3 rounds combined? Or are they calculating any avg.?

It just means they are very selective in which punches they do score, or maybe they might not see some of them. For a punch to score it has to land cleanly on either the opponents head or body with the knuckle part of the glove.

It's hard to explain but I'll try

    There's 5 Judges.

3 of the 5 judges have to press red or blue button when they see a punch landed within 2 secs of each other

A punch is defined as a shot landed with the knuckle part of the glove on the target area with force.

In case of a draw there's a countback, the highest scoring judge & the lowest scoring judge are eliminated & an average of the remaining 3 judges decides the winner.

Yeah. Though I agree, in some rounds a fighter was given 1 point but I did observer that he did land more than 1 clean punch for sure, in that 3 minutes. Not just in one case I saw this.. Many.. So there is something else or they are doing some kind of avg calculation, I believe.

That's not how it's scored anymore I don't think. They changed it to an aggregate system or something, got rid of the 2 second window.

Yeah I just mean that's how the judges score it. The final score you see at the end of the round is calculated by a computer, it removes the highest and lowest scores and then an average of the three closest is taken :good

I am pretty sure that people weigh in only during the day of their scheduled fight.

They don't, only a screw sort of shot that snaps the opponents head back scores.

forgot about the draw also. That is typical at tourneys. For example, at the golden gloves this past april i had to weigh in on Friday which the draw was set even though I didn't fight until saturday.
