Just read that boxing hasn't been included for the 2028 Olympics in LA, of course it can be included later but still quite a shock to see it omitted Thoughts??? Would anyone be bothered if boxing is included or not ?
Americans omitted it cuz theyve sucked at this level over the past few years in it. Its within their discretion. okay.
It's not included in the upcoming Olympics starting this weekend either, so that's no.... Hey wait a minute! Seriously though, @StussyBrownnn is probably thinking in the right direction.
Don't think the Americans have omitted it. The IOC have but the Americans, as hosts, can put it back in. If they don't, not to worry. It will be back in for the Brisbane Olympics in 2032. Horndog will be lighting the Olympic cauldron.
They constantly threaten this due to this or that dumpster fire at AIBA. I want to say boxing's status for Tokyo was decided within a year of the original start of the games.
The Olympics (summer and winter) are predominently watched by women and gay men in the U.S. They are the target audience. All the national broadcasts focus on female storylines. The ads during the broadcasts target them. It's been leaning that way for more than 20 years ... beginning with the figure skating scandal with Tonya Harding. In the winter, it's figure skating and figure skating and even more figure skating along with female snowboarding, and some speedskating, mens and womens, because the guys where super tight outfits. In the summer, it's men's diving (because they wear nothing), men's swimming (same), and gymnastics, gymnastics and more gymnastics ... for two weeks. All the profiles before the events focus on female storylines or their gay partners. Boxing used to be a fixture on the national broadcasts in the U.S. in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. It hasn't been featured at all on national broadcasts in recent Olympics. I think the final was shown in 2008. That was the last time. They relegate boxing to an affiliated cable outlet. Even basketball is being pushed to the sidelines and not on national broadcasts. If you didn't have cable (or the internet), you wouldn't have seen an Olympic boxing match on national television here in 14 years anyway. They are programming a big TV show for a female audience. They've been gradually phasing out boxing on the television coverage here in the U.S. for the last several Olympics. So I can see why in LA it would be bounced for anything that involves women or guys in speedos. Boxing doesn't draw the TV audience they are trying to attract. They aren't the Olympic Games anymore (here at least). They are just a two-week-long women's TV series. When I was a kid, my favorite was the Soviet weight lifter Vasily Alekseyev. He was the strongest man in the world. And he was really fat and very hairy with one eyebrow. And he destroyed everyone. I remember one competition where he was injured so he lifted the bar with one arm. And he only lost because he couldn't get the balance right. His hairy fat ass wouldn't come within a mile of a national television broadcast in the US. today. And that sucks.
Seriously I wish they would move boxing and wrestling and maybe weightlifting and some of the other indoor sports to the Winter Games. Those sports are underexposed in the Summer Games and the Winter Games get lower ratings because much of the world can’t relate to skiing and skating and such. Most of the planet doesn’t get that much snow and ice. Put boxing and such in the Winter Olympics and you widen the appeal and potential audience.
