You think he has poor balance? You need to give me more examples than just that part at 2:14, I think he has pretty good balance actually.
He showed it a few times. He is very squared up, and his footwork just seems lazy to me, kind of like his overall style at times. He just doesn't use his feet effectively when throwing punches, as he showed a couple of times when throwing hooks, nearly falling on his face later after a missed punch as well.
I guess he looks lazy because his legs are quite spread out, and it seems like he is comfortable with that stance because he has to ground himself to be able to throw his powerful hooks which is what he prefers stylistically. He isn't much of a boxer but when he is planted he can really punch..Thats what I like about him.
He can punch when he's planted yes, but he seems to stay planted after he punches as well, leading to the balance problems I saw.
Yeah and part of his game is to feint but how he gets away with those feints is beyond me. That is so technically flawed but he gets away with it I guess because he can really crack. He will lift 1 arm up in the air as if he is going to punch, then he just holds it there in midair while he releases the other arm all the while not even bringing the original arm back to the defense of his chin lol. I love it when he does it, but he is gonna get his clock cleaned eventually. If he doesn't hurt Mijares with some decent body work, he is gonna eat southpaw jab for 12 rounds.
There are flaws to Montiel's game, he is a phenominal puncher IMO. But if he can't inflict the pain he won't win this fight, There is just no way he wins it if he can't slow Mijares down.
