Being needlessly nerdy, but I checked the inflation rates for Korean Won over the years. 1 won in 1985 is equal to 3.42 won today. So I think he made around '176,411.55 current day United States Dollar'. Still no where near his fighting worth though, considering he's basicaly the best in his weight.
Reminds me of Manuel Ortiz and the pitiful purses he got despite being a consesus Top 5 Bantam of All Time.

Narvaez wasnt that good though really was he?

I mean you have to respect a long term world champion at all but in comparison to his peers he doesnt really cut it and everytime he stepped up and fought an actual top ten worthy fighter he got completely destroyed or shut out.

Whats is best win? David Carnona, Omar Soto or Cilipe Orocuta. They are decent enough wins but not the sort of best wins youd expect from a champion who has about twenty defences.

Hes essentially an Argentine Sven Ottke and kept the title at home where he had the advanatges ataying away from any top fighter in the division. As soon as he went against that method he lot every round of the foght with Donaire and then got sparked by Inoue and shut out again by Tete.

Considering that Donaire and Inoue were both a lot bigger than him and top p4p talents that is absolutely no shame. That's like knocking on Hearns for letting Leonard and Hagler take him out. What's impressive is that they were the only ones who could before he was into his forties. He was a special talent who probably could have accomplished more as evidenced by his unusually long string of title defenses.

I said already that I thought he was better than some of the guys rated above him. He wasn't a pound for pound elite world beater but he was definitely special. Not for nothing, but how many 5'2" champs can you think of holding it down at superfly? It's not that high, but guys that tall are usually straw weights. Tete is 5'9".

Narvaez wasn't the man when Wonjongkam ruled the roost. True, but he held the top spot in his own right for a couple of years after. That's no mean feat.

Your criticisms that he could have fought better competition are somewhat valid. But you're still setting the bar a little high expecting him to beat a champion seven inches taller and thirteen years younger when he's 43.

You know absolutely nothing about that of which you speak.
