What do you guys think of this long reigning WBO flyweight champion? He won his title in only his 12th pro fight and has made 15 defenses against decent but not great opposition. Asloum, Pozo, Inom and Sarritzu are ok wins but Narveaz hasn't fought the top guys at 112 like Darchinyan, Arce, Wonjonkamp, Donaire, Naito, Sakata, Kameda which is quite appalinging considering how long he has been a title holder for. I don't know why these fights never came of. Maybe he was ducking them or his managment are protecting him. It might even be the other way around - Narvaez has fought his entire career in Argentina with the occasional trip to Europe so is largely unknown and therefore a marketing nightmare so maybe the bigger names at 112 saw him as high risk/low reward. His resume aside i think he is a really good and exciting fighter. He is quick, has decent power and throws punches in bunches with some very quick, classy combinations. From what i have seen of him (which is largely limited as its hard to get hold of his Argentinian based fights) he seems a very talented boxer-puncher that i think would give many of the aformentioned fighters a tough fight, especially the more limited brawlers like Arce, Darchinyan and the awkward Naito. What do you guys think of him?
I need to watch some of this guys fights. Was gonna get them DL'd from a friend some while back. Buddy reckons he's an excellent fighter - one to really watch.
Chiko - i couldn't agree more. Xavier - you should check him out. Very skilled and exciting. I hope he steps up his level of competition soon though. Hes 33 which is very old for the flyweights.
He is pretty good, very well schooled little fighter with a hard style to contend with but he has burnt so many bridges around the world. At the start of his career he was well travelled going to Europe mulitple times. He was supposed to come to Australia to fight Hussein Hussein, but was being very difficult as the fight approached and it got canned with only a few weeks till the fight. Then he was supposed to fight Vic in the U.S, everything was just about signed, Shaw had travelled to Argentina more than once to get everything sorted, he was supposedly getting his biggest payday then something happened and everything fell apart. Shaw wasnt happy from reports and I doubt you will ever see this guy in the U.S. Having those two names on his resume would have made a massive difference to how people view him. I reckon he schools Sakata, and probably could edge Naito, that would be an interesting fight. Donaire would be to quick and strong, I think he just fights to survive in that fight. He used to have an awesome mullet, dont know if he still has.
Thanks a lot mate. I didn't know anything about the politics of why he didn't fight bigger fighters so thanks again for informing me. Its a shame really. I think he could have made quite a name for himself. Unfortunately the mullet is gone, lol.
