From what I heard, it sounds like Solis wasn't exactly pushing for any kind of knockout. Considering he's got Botha next month he probably just wanted to get in rounds and not screw anything up with a freak cut or injury or something.

I'm not a Solis fan (I'm neutral) but that's how it sounded.

    Yeah you're probably right:

Heavyweight Odlanier Solis remained unbeaten with a unanimous decision win over 20-year-old Dutch prospect Harry Duiven Jr. in Hattersheim on Saturday night. "La Sombra" controlled the fight from the first bell on and outboxed his opponent over eight rounds taking his own record to 10-0-0 (6 KOs) while Duiven dropped to 12-3-1 (10 KOs). It was Solis' first bout with new trainer Orlando Cuellar in his corner. The fight was a tune-up for the Cuban Olympic gold medalist's next tough test against Frans Botha. "I think it was good that I went the distance", said Solis after. "This Dutch kid showed great heart as he just refused to go down. Anyways I feel very well prepared for Botha and I can't wait to face him in the ring."

    people, lets be honest!!!

even if solis "was not pushing for the knockout"..........he should have taken him out anyway.

hell, even if solis was in a FORPLAY mood.........it should have resulted in a knockout against this level of opponent.

Remember Harry Duiven Jr is the fighter who fought his father to get a win last year!!!

I am not sold on Solis at all. I have a feeling that Botha is going to give him more problems than people think.

i think it was julius long that solis fought a few fights back.

long gets flattened even by harrsion when hit.

solis hit long flush a few times and never bothered him.

the conclusion must be that if solis is not bowling this level of comp over , even if they are boxing defensive then he has only average power.

combined with plodding footspeed, he will have to be matched right.

So far Solis is a big dissapointment and he won't be a force to be reckoned with at heavy anytime soon (and sorry for being pessimistic but I also don't see it happening anytime later).

I think that gamboa is doing quite good (with his unorthodoxy is asking for problems imo) and can and will be a world champ.

Barthelemy is doing good too except that he just lacks KO power. But he is a true, masterful slick counter-puncher who can also become a world champ imo.

SO, to put the three Cubans in a top 3, I have Gamboa at #1, Yan at #2 and Solis at #3.

(I just elaborated a bit on how I see the 3 defectors are doing so far)

    Peace
