This is disjointed but i have never seen any footage of this fight previously.

Have a look at Middleweight Eddie with just 10 fights behind him going for broke. I've been saying for decades Eddie is an absolute bomber. It's a shame so many of his early fights aren't available as he built up a huge reputation for power during that time. Tho delayed Gene ends up absolutely sparked.

Eddie just did the Jimmy Ellis thing and ate himself out of the middleweight division. If he could have kept the weight off, I thought Eddie could have picked things up after the champ Monzon retired.

Valdez was old & Corro was always a tough match for his style. Vito & the others? I like I like the Gregory chances.I thought Eddie could have really shined. But it takes discipline. And we found out later as a lh, Eddie just did not have what it takes to be a champ that is able to defend the title a bunch of times.

Gregory had all of 10 fights behind him going in here. He was fighting a prime experienced campaigner with absolute dynamite in his left hand. Hart beat Sugar Ray Seales and drew Briscoe the very next year. 5 fights later EMM took on Briscoe and gave a great account of himself. This is 3 years before Briscoe fought Hagler.

You can see the Eddie's rawness in the Hart fight vs the calm seasoned fighter he was later to become. I quite like the extra aggression tho.

But here is the thing: could Eddie have held his own with Marvelous Marvin?

I don't think he fought long enough at middleweight to get to that point. He was still green when he left. Having said that he'd give him a very rough time as he looked more aggressive at 160.

Hart was a legitimate knockout artist but if you caught him right he was gone... Briscoe took him out in one in their rematch, doing just that.

Yeah, Hart was a megalith puncher who sadly "could dish it out better than he could take it" I guess. Vito A. even stopped him...but there's still something high quality badass and lethal in the way that Eddie took him out...with such finality...like an Inland Taipan killing a rabbit with 10 times or more of the venom necessary to do the job. I honestly believe that he could have destroyed Marvin Johnson in the same way, but he was in this "zen-like" cruise control, and in the zone with those body punches. An exhibition of superiority and mastery the likes I've ever seen before.....but he still, IMO, could have really turned it on and iced poor Marv if he had been so inclined.
