Usually I am pretty calm when I've got a chance to meet boxers. Off and on i've worked for boxing websites, so I've gotten a chance to meet and talk to quite a few on the phone. However, I never asked for autographs or anything like that.

Today my boss at a website I write for asked if I want to cover a press conference tomorrow...A Mike Tyson Conference!!! I was like hell yes.

Mike Tyson has always been on my fictional "if you could have dinner with 5-10 people list who would you invite" list. I am so shocked tomorrow. I have never actively sought out an autograph, but I would honestly wait around up to 8-10 hours to get one and just to shake his hand. I'm so pumped right now, not even funny.

By the way, the presser is him announcing he will be a boxing ambassador to China

So you're not going to really be 1-on-1 with him, just up close and covering the event along with a room full of other journalists? That's still cool. :good

It's the closest I'll most likely ever get...I'm sort of a timid guy, but I am taking off the journalist hat and putting on the fan hat for this one. I hope I get a chance to get a picture with him somehow, would make for a hell of a profile picture. I am also going to bring an old fight photo I have from a press packet where he fought Frank Bruno...I also have 4 books I can choose from. I hope he's signing stuff.

So yeah, def not a 1-on-1, but the closest I'll (most likely) get to meet him...as I write this the guys on PTI are making a mike tyson vs. spinks reference, lol.

I actually did too, right before Fres Oquendo fight. I asked him like 5 questions, and said, thank you for your time...he was like "is that it?" with a big smile...I was like...ummm, yeah, I didn't want to bother you, lol

    Don't be like Karceno though!

It becomes creepy when he blatantly exposed his man-love for Fraud.

    ENJOY (I mean it)

Yes. Don't say you had dinner with Tyson and then film him through the dining room window.

Good luck tomorrow. Often times it can be disappointing meeting your heroes but Tyson was super nice in person and I could not speak more highly of him. Great guy.

Pity you missed the competition I ran. A guy here on ESB will be spending a week with Mike and our team in Prague from Friday. Includes hanging out with Mike and a thousand euro ticket to the Czech president's show.

haha, no I won't be too creepy. Sadly, at the end of the day it's a work day. I've always wanted to go to the hall of fame ceremonies in New York, but haven't had the chance yet due to some bad timing (weddings, death in the family, etc). Now I moved cross country, so less likely now, but def still pumped.

    Thanks for the well wishes.

Oh yeah, I'm totally aware he could be in a bad mood, or not sign, or cuss at me or something. I won't be all hurt if it happens...I've actually had it happen when I met Buster Douglas at Turning Stone...it wasn't him so much. He had like these little groupies with him. I told Buster I was a big fan and would love an autograph. He was cool but his little groopie made fun of me, mimicking the way I said it. I didn't care so much but my dad was ready to fight the guy, lol. But to his credit, Buster was cool and signed something for me.

Damn I wouldn't know where to start if I had the chance of meeting Tyson, and he probably won't either...
He's really one of the most charismatic (good or bad) people ever IMO.

    Enjoy!
