Feather duster HW or sledgehammer LHW? (he weighs 170lbs on fight night...) just curios... could be a rabbit hole to interesting discourse.

Hard question. I'm not sure of Young's fight weight but it had to have been a decent bit heavier than GGG. However, stylistically, Young didn't plant his feet or use a kinetic chain when punching. He was more concerned on just landing something and getting outta Dodge. Golovkin really digs his shots in. I'd hazard a guess at Golovkin being the harder hitter on average. However, if you lined them up in front of a punching machine and told them to take their best shot, that metric might change.

Young had enough on those clean right hands of his to make opponents fall for his feints. He could and did land some nice clean right hands in there and that was hardly an easy thing to do against those elite opponents.

Definitely Golovkin. Size is being consistently overrated on this forum.

Dempsey whatever perceived deficits he has according to modern folks had the power to KO guys the size of a SHW in frame, weight and height whatever Willard was what he was big and durable so why wouldn’t there be more at 168-175lbs today? It’d be odd if there wasn’t… I also agree GGG could swat harder… boxing wins boxing matches I am considered a “size guy” but it depends on your style an how you approach boxing Usyk succeeds because his “game” doesn’t revolve around physicality when you talk about say Cleveland Williams and how he fought well he just wouldn’t have the same sort of success even if he is a better athlete, Marciano likely punched as hard as anybody and Julian Jackson probably wasn’t far from a good punch at HW… the saying should be size can matter.

Obviously Young, Chris Byrd probably punches harder than GGG, HWs get really disrespected at times.

Its possible. But Dempsey was a legit 185-192 lbs peak. I doubt GGG entered the ring at more than 170 lbs.

Plus, given that GGG's power was never tested vs anyone who weighed more than 200, its hard to say. Even if GGG had fought a journeyman cruiserweight or heavyweight, even someone with a record of 2 wins and 10 losses, we could have assessed his power.

You’d rather try to survive punched by GGG opposed to Byrd in a boxing match?

Young was clearly not a puncher by style but on occasion he could hit a bit ... go to 2:10 ... I'd say Young
