On ESB Ali is underrated and Whitaker is overrated.

You're full of ****. Never seen one statement on this board claiming that Pernell is top 5 All time in boxing. Show me one or I call BS.

 

Marciano went undefeated because he dominated a weak era. I should not have to remind you of this. The best names on his resume are Walcott and Louis. Walcott was tearing him a new *******, but both of them were past their best days. Louis, in particular. He isn't rated as high as Muhammad Ali because he was not as good, has nothing to do with him being a particular colour.

Why are the Klitschko's relevant here? Neither of them could carry Ali's jockstrap.

I agree with the thread starter to a degree. Muhammad Ali is given some flack because he is far to popular in the mainstream for the purists among us. That said, most people acknowledge he is the best Heavyweight of all time. That said, say one negative thing about Pernell Whitaker then be prepared to get owned. Both great fighters, both top 25 P4P entrants.

 

There are at least two gods among ESB. Whitaker and Duran.

 

I've never seen anyone put Pernell top five, and most people from what I've seen won't even rank in the top ten ATG. Ali I'll always say in the top five, but a lot of the fighters you can list in the top five are so great it's like splitting hairs trying to justify having one above the other.

The computer fight holds about as much weight as you do.

If you want to debate who has the better resume between Rocky Marciano and Muhammad Ali I'm all for it.

Don't want to hear about the Klitschko's. Okay champions, dominating an abysmal era consisting of lazy out of shape contenders.

I don't want to belittle Marciano. He fought everybody and was successful every time out. I don't see any argument that he should be rated above Muhammad Ali though. Compare resume, compare skillsets, and compare longevity.

 

I agree that Whittaker's way overrated on ESB. Especially when a best defence thread comes up i see everyone speakin of Whitaker as if he was untouchable. Whitaker has one of the best defences of all time but go knocked down many times, even by average fighters. He was good but not as good as sum ppl on ESB think he is.

I aint heard a lot of Ali badmouthin or disrespect on here so I'll leave that one alone

In any event, as I have said, Muhammad Ali achieved enough throughout his career to prove he was greater than Rocky Marciano and any other white champion before or after him up until this point.
