On reflection, how do you rate Hatton's performance v Malignaggi?

I thought the performance was good, not great. He did what he needed to do, no more than that. Paulie was considered the no 2 but his claim to fame was giving a weight drained Cotto a good fight, and getting a severe beating in the process.

However, as soon as Paulie felt Hatton's power with that hook in the first round it took the fight out of him completely. And then in the second round there was another good shot as i recall. He realised then that Hatton was far too much for him and he fought a gunshy, spoiling fight from that point onwards. If Paulie had tried to fight more I believe Hatton would have looked a lot better in getting the win.

 

Paulie Also Had NO POWER Against Cotto who is Bigger/Stronger than Hatton
but he Fought with two hands heart and Guts
he does have a good Chin and knowlege inside the ring.
its just clear against hatton he either lost his Confidence Early on
either in himself or his hands.

 

Personally. I thought he was pretty fantastic.

He completely nullified anything that Paulie had, which Cotto wasn't able to do.
people will complain that he showed that he still hasn't learnt any bobbing and weaving but that is bull**** and anyone who says that hasn't seen his Pre-Kostya fights.
He was moving his head against Paulie but only so much as he felt he need to.

Some people here have the opinion that Rick has a weak chin, due to his knock out by Floyd but that proves little. All the other fights against very heavy hitters (does no one really remember some of the bombs Kostya fired off? Never mind Urango et al) prove that he can take a punch as good as anyone, unfortunately for Ricky, Floyd was just too good for him (at that time and due to Ricky's bad game plan/seeing red and losing the plot) and the connections Floyd made really mounted up, until he caught him with a perfect hook, with help from the turnbuckle.

 

With all due respect. You shouldn't take what a fighters trainer says as being objectively unbiased. You shouldn't do so while they are with the fighter and you shouldn't do so especially after they have parted.

 

I Think Buddy threw the Towel in more out of embarasment than paulie getting hurt???
Paulie let himself down .....BUT......Not once was he knocked down and was only
hurt once in the 2nd round and Not once did the ref warn paulie he was going to stop it
paulie clearly wasn't hurt he was just trying to survive till the final bell so he didn't
get stopped!!!!!

Ricky's performance was GOOD but how come he couldn't stop paulie??????
Yes paulie was spoiling but he wasnt strong enough to keep ricky off him

Malignaggi visibly bottled it when they faced off at the weigh in, when they went eye to eye you could see him go from cocky and confident to intimidated in a split second.

I was very tired when I watched this fight and found it boring, I didn't think Hatton was much better than previous performances but seem to remember him landing quite a lot of lead left hooks.

 

He did well. I agree however with Lampley's comments. PM is limited and it was due to good management that he got this fight to begin with.

Hatton did exactly what he was supposed to do. He was aggressive with a guy who couldn't hurt him. We've seen it a 1000 times before. Hatton frustrated Paulie who was capable, but just lacked the power to earn Hatton's respect. It comes down to how good we thought Paulie was, and Paulie was a titlist so imo it was a great performance. Hatton seemed calm, and kept the pressure on Paulie for the full 12. He did what he had to do, and that's win, and he did well imo.

Hatton didn't look good at all as the fight got underway. He seemed confused in the first round, but after he landed that sneak right at the end of the second everything shifted. Permanently. Malignaggi completely shelled up at that point - too scared to square himself or throw - and he never came out of it. Hatton's confidence surged. The rest of it was an excercise.

Merchant was right; it was cause and effect.. Malignaggi complained of Hatton's head movement and shiftiness afterward.. He felt there was no target. This wasn't any kind of accident. It was a good win for Hatton. It was cause and effect. Did Malignaggi and McGirt misunderstood what the were up against? Not likely. They just couldn't handle it.

Hatton did good things and bad things in that fight, but Malignaggi wasn't the guy to show us what happens when Hatton is fighting out of that type of hybrid crouch and the opponent is exploding back with consistent leads and combinations. We should keep in mind, however, that the difference between planning to throw more punches at Hatton, or outbox Hatton, or outmanuever Hatton, and actually doing it are entirely different things... Maybe McGirt and Maligaggi didn't know what they were up against after all..

 

Paulie looked worse as hatton hurt him early and he tried to last the 12 after that.

a good but not amazing win, paulie was considered no.2 in division before that and he did what he had to do.

question goin in was how would he handle the speed and elusiveness? did ok, tho think pac is a different propostion all together, has some pop on his punches for one thing.

easy to say after paulie looked **** or bradley is better but hatton did a job at the time and looked good doing so, i give him benefit of the doubt

maybe just maybe PAULIE WAS PUTTING ON THE PERFORMANCE HATTON ALLOWED HIM TOO, i mean how long did paula have to train,was it on his home soil,was he running his mouth off for months,did he look in great shape,was he not the supposed to be the no.2 at 140,how many people on here were on the ladyboy bandwaggon beforehand?a slick fast fighter with proven credentials......
