I like to have a fair and respectful discussion. And I completely congratulate Green for the win. It was a big win for him, and he got it fair and square. Nobody forced Jones to be there - he made his own choices (bad ones, repeatedly, in the latter part of his career). And yes you are right - Green was the underdog, surprising as that is to me, then and now.
I was admittedly a big Roy fan when I was growing up. So I am trying to be fair in my views(!) But I followed his career in real time from 1998. And it was very clear to most hardcore boxing fans that he was done in 2004 after the Glen Johnson fight. He looked dreadful in there. I was calling for him to retire then, and he never looked the same again. He was finished when he fought Calzaghe (as a Brit I think prime RJJ beats him comfortably) but did keep on peppering his resume with lower level wins, occasionally against 'known ' fighters in a bid to stay relevant. But he was in his late 30s and not operating at the same level at all. Honestly, I thought at the time it was obvious he'd get smoked vs Green, as his punch resistance was long gone. The fact RJJ was a favourite baffles me - I can only think he was living on name value and smoke and mirrors. But again, Green won - and won decisively.
I just don't think it's fair to take THAT version of Jones in that performance and say it's clear that Green would always have won. I thought the steep decline in Jones was obvious from 2004 onwards. He was never the same again. He was incredible for years until... he wasn't. And when it was over, it was over. Personally I believe a prime Jones beats everyone who later held a win over him. To be honest, watching him in those peak years I thought no one would beat him before he retired. But he went on waay too long. And made some bad career moves. And that's on him. But I either way, I respect your views and appreciate the discussion.

Respect your views, but I think 'on the slide ' would have applied to Jones ' skills about 4 or 5 years prior to this. I think he'd slid already and had nearly hit the bottom(!) He should have waved goodbye after the dreadful Johnson defeat or, at the very least, Tarver 3 - four years earlier. That being the case I can't see much of an argument that Green, honest a pro as he is, does this to any version of Jones prior to around 2005.

No way. Mundine destroyed the same Sam Soliman who took Winky Wright to a close UD.

    You missed my initial point.

Which was that Bernard’s ego is so huge, just like Roy’s and many other fighters, that he had to have that rematch.

So: He went to any length to try and justify it.

    It was pathetic.

He’d watched Roy’s fight with Joe Calzaghe. And afterwards, he’d said that after years of wanting a rematch, that he now had zero interest in fighting Roy again.

He said that there’d be no point, as Roy was no longer ‘Superman’

But he couldn’t let it go.

He couldn’t help scratch that itch.

And in the end, he tried to justify the rematch, by saying that Roy was looking good, and that it was an awful stoppage.

    It was cringeworthy.

His own trainer, the very respected, Naz Richardson, did all that he could to talk Bernard out of it.

Richardson did not in any way want that fight for Bernard.

And then instead of trying to easily beat him, he instead did everything in his power to try and get Roy disqualified.

It’s the worst fight I’ve ever seen in my life. Even worse than Joe’s fight with Hopkins.

We’ve discussed the fight many times before.

Yes, Roy did better than expected. But he literally hadn’t had a top level win in over 6 years.

The fight was a joke. Because Bernard was just a scavenger. Just like Joe was.

They both said that they didn’t want to fight him as he was a shot fighter. Yet they both went on and fought him regardless.

Regarding Green, the man would literally have been lucky to have won a round off of a pre-HW version of Roy.

BTW, if you’ve not seen it, have a look at James Toney sparring Danny Green. It’s very entertaining.

    Likewise

It's all opinions but in my defence I am not only a certified chin specialist I'm one of the world's leading authorities on punch resistance

Jones Jr came to Australia thinking he was the man. Danny Green showed him that he was only a Roy.

The Green Machine spanked a lot of Yanks in his career
Roy Jones, BJ Flores, Danny Santiago, Otis Griffin, James Crawford, Rhon Roberts, his only loss was to Tarver who was juiced to the eyeballs.
The Green Machine 6 the Yanks 1 (due to PED use)

Roy’s China Chin was an insult to Glass. He was basically knocked down from the wind of the punches

Cheers Prow , I didn’t know he ever held the full version of the title , certainly didn't think he held it twice .

Btw for what it's worth after their careers are over and the dust has settled for me Choc was the better of the two .

I’ll pull up old quotes of Ol’ Roidin Roy but he was kind of dismissive of Green. That boy really thought it would be a walk in the park. Lol :D I guess Super Joe knocked a few screws loose upstairs.
