    The middle fight of the trilogy between Rocky Graziano and Tony Zale occurred on this day, 16th July, 1947.

    Rocky Graziano won by TKO after a 30-punch barrage on Zale in the sixth round, to win the world middleweight title. The bout was held at Chicago Stadium.

    This fight was Ring Magazine's 1947 fight of the year and was at that stage the largest grossing fight in history.

    Zale won the other two bouts contested between these two great champions, both by KO.
