From what I remember,I believe there was some comments quoting him saying " I can't erase the 0,but I erased De Jesus." Or something like that. Either way,he put on a masterclass on the Puerto Rican, ignore Viruet's salty comments about him beating Duran despite putting on the track shoes for 10 before.
No one takes Viruet seriously except maybe Viruet. He ran for 10 rounds otherwise Duran would've crushed him like a bug and he knows it.
Duran in the third DeJesus fight is quite possibly the most complete performance in history. You'll never see a more perfect fighter.
His patience stood out. DeJesus was looking for Duran to come out like a Tiger throwing his right hand. Estaban had a quick lefthook counter. Duran boxed him picking his spots torturing DeJesus to the body and giving him a lesson on inside fighting. Arcel would tell him when to let loose. This Duran was the finished product at 135lbs The right hand he hit DeJesus with that initially put him down was one of the scariest punches I've seen landed. In real time it looked like it should have broken his neck. Then on replay it looks the same. DeJesus shows great courage and honor to get up after crawling to the ropes. He knew what was coming and who was bringing it. A cold finish. Duran always respected Estaban after their trilogy was over.
imo, De Jesus was the second person to bring Duran a nasty time in the inside, after Marcel who did get some good shots inside but eventually drowned from Duran's offense, Esteban hung tough.
