In NYC, the peerless Sugar Ray Robinson regained his World Middleweight title from Randolph Turpin:

There were 8 seconds left of the tenth round when the ref stepped in to save Turpin who was on the ropes. Sadly his was one of the sad ends to an illustrious career in the ring...

 

This is true. Turpin was quick and a big, strong, awkward and very unusual. This was one of Robinson's greatest wins. Both boxers displayed uncommon speed and skill.

This showed the general fan that Sugar Ray could dig deep when the $ was on the line.

 

Turpin would be a threat to any historical middleweight, head to head.

Turpin was a sad case...committed suicide eventually.

 

This fight was mentioned in the SRR biography I read. Turpin sounds like he's being kind of lost to history; a good fighter turned into being known mainly for losing to Robinson.
