Funny cause I just watched this. Larry Merchant "Tyson is 34-0, not including his fights against his wife and manager"

23 years. I would say time goes by quickly, but 1988 does seem like a long time ago.

It's weird to read Four Kings and the fights are on Mondays and Fridays and ****. That would never happen today.

    Bull****.

He looked like he was on his way to the electric chair.

I was 15 or 16 at the time, and watched it with the old man. He saw Spinks on the way to the ring (I'd been talking Spinks up) and he simply said "that guy will be lucky to make it out of the second round. Look at him, he's bricking it. Bet you any money it's over in 2 at the most".

Of course, having no money but being young, I bet him some money against me doing a ****ing unrealistic amount of work (wood chopping, house painting, lawn mowing for something like 6 months, basically everything I could think of), that Spinks would make round 3. With ****ing bells on :D

I was very, very upset 91 seconds later. Understandably, my old man, less so.

Spinks went down the first chance he got, that wouldn't look appalling. "Oh, he's hit me, that'll do. I'm done".

I was 16 when this happened. Spinks looked like a defeated man walking to the ring. The look in his eye, his demeanor, his body language. He lost this fight months before that walk. I felt so bad for Spinks.
