He excelled at both football and amateur boxing and became one of his high school’s top football players He was offered university football scholarships to Michigan State and Western Michigan schools. He blew that opportunity at a University of Michigan training camp when he become involved in an altercation with Deion Sanders. According to Toney, during the tryout he and Sanders got into a confrontation and exchanged words which escalated to the point where Toney hit Sanders. Favored yes but depends on what you mean by heavily.

Barkley was a 13/5 underdog (+260 in moneyline representation), which is about what Canelo was against Mayweather. (+245)

Barkley was the reigning titlist at 168 with Toney moving up from 160 to challenge, but it was only Barkley's first defense and he got a pretty lucky break in knocking over a very weak paper champ in Van Horn in the first place in his own SMW debut after fleeing MW (with Arum magically guiding him to an instant title shot right away) so he was hardly an established top-tier SMW while Toney was already on p4p lists.

 

Well for at least five more years Deion can be happy with being in a pro sports Hall of Fame while James isn't...
