I wish Povetkin retired after this, it would have been the perfect swansong; rather than seeing a covid addled Povetkin be wheeled out as cannon fodder for Whyte in the rematch.

I remember the uproar when a rematch was agreed despite the fact Povetkin had just absolutely ktfo of Whyte and was getting a near career high payday.q

To be fair, Whyte was dominating up until that point.

Take nothing away from how beautifully timed and powerful that uppercut was, a pure demonstration of proper boxing skill and the ability to remain calm enough to see it.

But it's not like there wasn't a question to answer when it was a bit of an unexpected flash KO given how the fight was going.

I didn't have an issue with a rematch per se... Until I saw Povetkin's condition, he was a shell of what was already a badly faded fighter in the first bout.

He had terrible Covid case. I still can't believe his team let Povetkin fight.

I saw interview year after that last fight and he was still feeling weak

He was an idiot to take the rematch after contracting long covid.

Refreshing to see someone insist on fighting instead of making excuses... Which is far more common these days.

And yet - you're not wrong, he shouldn't have been in there.

But had he pulled out he loses out on millions and he hasn't always earnt that kinda money.

    One last hurrah.

Against a guy he sparked out.

That uppercut was a combination of

    Skill
    Accuracy
    Power

    And sheer hilarity.

Guys...this one was better and more important as it was a HW championship bout.

It should be in the dictionary for "puncher's chance" and "one punch can change anything in the hw division".

Pov was looking awful. Looked fragile and off but got off a nicely set up punch with great leverage.

Povetkin, AKA, Russian Wilder. Needing his power to bail him out after getting dominated by a superior fighter. LOL

Oh hell no, even ruined Povetkin had attributes way beyond Wilder... The chin to still be standing, a great skillset (including uppercuts) and the composure to set a trap under pressure and execute a plan.

Whyte at that point was the better fighter - Pov was already very much declined... And Whyte was clearly winning until the KO - not that being dominated by a prime legit contender when you're in your twilight years is anything to be ashamed of (any more than, say, Wlad losing to Joshua was, or Lewis finding prime Vitali difficult was).

The rematch didn't really correct the score or anything like that purely because of how ruined he was after COVID.
Nor did Whyte's performance in the first bout indicate for a moment that he'd have beaten a prime Pov.
