I hope a few of you guys like some of these series of articles i am finding. I was going to do a bill squires life story, but these Chiddy Ryan recollections might become interesting. His time seems to stretch from Bare knuckle days to Joe Louis days.

I had never heard of Chiddy before, but he might have been pretty handy. Seems to have started at the same time as young griffo and doesnt seem to have been really outclassed by Griffo.

And here is article 2. It gives what seems to be a first hand account (although if not, it seems to certainly be the in the know story) of the Slavin Jackson bar fight. These articles seem to be interesting and fairly quick to read.

I used a lot of Chiddy Ryan's recollections for my Ike Weir article. It was invaluable, especially in getting a good perspective on the evolution (de-evolution?) of Young Griffo. Weir was his hero and he emulated the "Belfast Spider" both inside and outside of the ring, dressing snazzy and getting into street and bar altercations.

Yeah the Chiddy Ryan articles are a great series, he and Griffo fought something like 27 times or something ridiculous like that, but considering they were old friends im sure it was quite literally more of an exibition style senario

Boilermaker... if you havent already i do recommend reading the articles Surf-Bat refers to... they are not written by Chiddy but he is interviewed by another scribe....very interesting reading
